November 22, 20241 yr I did some helicopter flying in MSFS 2024 yesterday, and I was pretty impressed with what I saw, certainly from the scenery perspective. In one of the previews, they talked about how many helipads they had added to MSFS 2024, and it looks like they weren't kidding. I did a flight around my local area, and it looks like just about every hospital helipad is present. These also show up on the "start flight" screen if you select a helicopter as the aircraft type. The scenery looks great from typical helicopter altitudes of a few hundred feet up. When landing, especially outside an airport or helipad, the ground detail makes it easier to judge just how high up you are and how fast you're moving. (I landed in a field, and it was fun.) I can't comment on the helicopter flight dynamics as a) my helicopter skills are pretty useless, and b) I must have had extensive assistance options turned on by default, as I was able to control the helicopter well despite my lack of skills. (Need to investigate the assistance options further, though I'll probably keep them on their current settings -- as I say, I'm pretty useless. 😉) I've never really gotten into helicopters, but I'm motivated to try them more in MSFS 2024. I'll try and see if I can put the helicopter down in the middle of an intersection -- also interested to see if those kinds of things show up in the missions. Waiting to see what the real helicopter pros say about MSFS 2024, but I'd encourage everyone to check helicopters out, even if you haven't done so before -- it really looks like this could be one of MSFS 2024's strong suits.
