October 31, 20241 yr I have a 500Gb NVMe drive (C:) loaded with Steam MSFS 2020, that is almost full and a 1Tb SSD drive (D:) with just the rolling cache. I want to move the Steam MSFS 2020 from C : onto D : so I can use the faster NVMe drive C : for MSFS 2024. Do I need to uninstall/install MSFS 2020 ? Or can I just copy ? The original install took almost 24hrs ! I understand the the Community folder for all my add-ons (and sub folders) can just be copied (even to the new MSFS 2024) is this correct ? Is there anything else I will need to consider ? Thanks
October 31, 20241 yr No need to do a full download all over again. go over the instructions in this thread 9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen
October 31, 20241 yr The Community and Official folders move together. If the system allows it, I would copy over the packages folder that contains these two, to your d drive. If your system complains, you could try the free "unstoppable copier" app (Google it).. That did it for me. Next step is to edit the last line in the Usercfg.opt file to point to the new location. After restarting MSFS, and verifying that all is working correctly, you can delete the original packages folder. Bert
October 31, 20241 yr Copy community and official folders and their subfolders and move them to SSD D. Both are very large. The rest of MSFS files are small, leave them where they are. That stuff in community and official is only accessed when MSFS boots up. Leave the other MSFS files on the fast C drive. November 2, 20241 yr Author Thanks for all your help ! I did as advised and copied/moved the Packages folder, and all sub folders, to my D : , modified the usercfg.opt file, and it has all worked a dream. Thanks again 😄
