Few people like realistic fiction?

For instance of Dicken's fifteen novels Two Cities is the most far fetched, implausible. His other's are fiction which could have really happened. The first person to write good realistic fiction was Jane Austen (about 1810). She doesn't make the top ten. Apparently people want to be swept away with the fantastic.

Well...... I've kind of always had this feeling that I live real life every day....

Like a truck driver that wouldn't be caught dead playing American truck simulator, why would I read about people just like me doing similarly mundane things, when I can read about fighting dragons, or single handedly winning an interstellar war?

Like many, I will read about (semi) real life if it includes enough naughtiness though, but of course that's just biology, evolution, hormones and etc temporarily taking control of the bus, so I plead insanity.... 🤔

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

I like history myself. True things that happened to real people. Someone said “fact is stranger than fiction.” Or “ you can’t make this stuff up.”

I lean heavily toward realism, but if the more fantastical is well done, and I can concoct some kind of means by which the fantastical can be explained, like reality/physics being different in that realm, I can handle it.
