AutoOrtho 0.6.0-1 released

I have installed ZL levels above 18 in my current setup. Will AutoOrtho overwrite them with lower resolution data ? Or select to dislpay the higher resolution that is already there ?

As long as your pre-generated Ortho4XP directories are listed above the AutoOrtho directories in your scenery_packs.ini file, your current, hand-curated Orthos will display in the areas that you have them for and the AutoOrtho tiles will display in the areas where you don't have pre-existing orthos.

Lastly, AutoOrthos has it's own set of directories. It doesn't overwrite any of your other pre-existing scenery packages.

AutoOrtho just serves what X-Plane is requesting. In order to have your Ortho4XP tiles show up instead of the AutoOrtho packs, just put them above in scenery_packs.ini! EDIT: Sorry, I haven't seen that @Malaromane has already answered that 😉

Re pre-generating tiles: that refers to how AO scenery is created. Pre-generated AO scenery contains everything (elevation, water masks, ...) apart from the ortho imagery .dds files. You don't have to care about it if you use the default scenery packs. It can be an involved process so if you don't want to dive in, I suggest to rather just generate your "special settings" tiles with Ortho4XP.

autoortho: I have tried several flights with autoortho 6.1 and the results were, generally, very good. I hope improvements will continue.

On a flight from Wilkes Barre PA (KAVP) to Millville NJ (KMIV) at 3,500' the views were good until I got to the Allentown PA area and it was all tinted orange - quite ugly. There was also a peppering of black trees in improbable places (these were also visible in high altitude flights). There wasn't too much rubber stamping of fill ins.

I received the dreaded z_ao_na message and restarted X-Plane 12 and then it worked ok. So, don't give up so fast like I did earlier and redo the whole shebang.

With regard to the black trees, I'd rather see plain, unadulterated orthos. I'd like to see them eliminated and I do not have any scenery folders about trees.

Note: I did a duplicate flight on MSFS and Allentown showed up in normal colors. I used Bing imagery in both cases.
Anyway, autoortho has a very promising future in X-Plane. You might like to give it a go.

While the dev is busy with life, I suggest reverting to v0.5.1-3 for those that have the tile issue with v0.6.x. Else it could clear up on repeated flights and you could live with it as is.

My hope lies with the dev testing and realizing something changed in v0.6.x that either needs tweaking or backed out of the build.

I wish for v0.5.2 with the .ini handling fix and the functional test v0.6.1 does at startup.
