Feathering a propeller

Featured Replies

Can constant speed planes manually feather their propellers?

If it is possible to manually feather a propeller, is that animated in MSFS, for example, in an engine shutdown situation in the air in the Milviz 310, JustFlight's PA-28, or Flysimware's 414?

Single engine CSU aircraft will not feather but twins will.

Are there twins in MSFS that can adjust the pitch to create reverse thrust?

Why can't single engine CSU aircraft not feather?

I'm only guessing here but if you have an engine failure in a single you are going to land. A feathering system increases aircraft complexity, no doubt weight and cost. Maybe it is a design decision. Pulling the prop back to full coarse on a single CSU dramatically improves your glide - maybe designers decided to go full feather wasn't worth the extra complexity etc.

A twin, on the other hand, may be able to make an aerodrome with an engine out if it is feathered - different scenarios and decisions.

Thank you. Probably would only makes sense for single prop acrobatic planes or for WWII fighter planes.

The Cessna C208 Caravan has a prop that can feather, and it's a single engine aircraft.

Thank you. This is very interesting.

So does the Pilatus PC6... just as the Mooney Missile and Rocket conversions

But! Much, much more important is!

How do you go to the bathroom SINGLE-PILOT? Pilatus PC-12 - YouTube

AH! and OFC !  Props in gliders can also always be feathered...

I should get some of those "portable, disposable containers" to keep in my car. Sadly, at my age my bladder has about a 15 minute recycle period, which makes traveling more than a bit awkward... 🤫
