Problems with Honeycomb Throttle Quadrant

Featured Replies

I've read in forums where the Honeycomb Throttle Quadrant is very hard to set up in MSFS 2020 almost to the point it's not worth it? I was thinking about buying one to go with my Honeycomb yoke but so many bad reviews(mostly set up problems) that I've read, I probably will stick with my CH quadrant. Some reviews said that you have to be a computer engineer to set the quadrant up with MSFS 2020. This seems to be a misrepresentation that the company says the quadrant sets up easily with MSFS 2020? Those who have this quadrant did you experience any problems setting it up with MSFS 2020? Thank you for any info that you may have on setting this quadrant up because I am still interested however, I'm no computer engineer! lol

I have a Bravo Throttle Quadrant, and it was not too difficult at all to setup in MSFS. They key is to make separate profiles based on the different aircraft your like to fly. This is very good tutorial video on setting up custom controls with the Bravo Throttle. Check it out and maybe it will help you make a decision.

AMD Ryzen 9900X3D & ASUS X870E Gaming Plus MB, w/64 Gb GSkill DDR5 RAM, PNY RTX 5090 GPU, lots of SSD's and M.2 drives, HAVN  Case, Virpil VPC Panels 2 and 3, Virpil Constellation Alpha Stick, Virpil Rotor TCS Plus w/ Hawk-60 Collective grip, TM TCA Yoke Boeing Edition, TM HOTAS A-10 and F/A-18 Sticks and TM TPR Rudder pedals. Currently on Win11

It is very simple as with any other controller.
Problems begin with complex airplanes like Fenix A320 etc... they use custom variables that are not exposed to Controler configuration in MSFS and cant be binded. Axis, gears, flaps is not a problem, but lights, AP and so on are all custom variables and you must use some external applications to bind those.

But again, this is not Honeycomb problem. You would have same issues with any controller.

I used the video referenced above and it was a snap. No problems and very easy.

Yes, for lights I read where you need to download ( I forget what off site it was) from a third party app. I wish I could remember what site it was......should have wrote it down.😯

It's no harder to set up than any other controller, a tip is to clear it of all preset commands first that you don't use for all aircraft, and then save the profile as a default starting position to use when you make profiles for other aircrafts.

System: I ASRock X670E | AMD 7800X3D | 64Gb DDR5 6000 | RTX 4090 | 2TB NVMe | Seasonic Vertex 1000W I LG Ultra Gear 34 UW I

It's only as hard as you make it.  I've watched YouTube videos that helped me better understand how to set things up and then went on my own to customize setups to work best for me.  I also use SPAD.next for 95% of my setups, but that's a whole other can of worms.  Hehehe...

Just be warned Better Bravo Lights causes AIG traffic controller to crash. AIG says it’s a problem with Simconnect but no other apps crash so I don’t know

Thanks for that warning Tyson, I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks, great tip!

All said above is true. The best way is to start with a clean sheet i,e make a custom profile & clear everything. Note what is bound to the Alpha yoke. You do not want any duplicate binds. Methodically go through the bindings & allocate them as you go. Recheck they work. For the throttles it can be a bit fiddly depending on the aircraft type. Keep perservering. There is a good 3D flap quadrant etc you can download. Sorry I can't remember the location. This turns the flap lever into a really useable thing. I fly the TBM and use the modified flap lever. Also I have mapped the flap up switch as starter & flap down as throttle adv. Works well on the TBM for engine start.

Thanks for posting this.  As mentioned by others, it is very helpful and easy to follow.

I know there are a million of these out there, but can someone suggest similar quality (and ease) video(s) walking through the setup of the Alpha yoke?

Again, thanks for posting,

Brian
