July 18, 20214 yr The PT (= Project Tupolev) IL-62M is known to many of us, who are fans of Soviet era (early) jetliners....but, today, while perusing the Library a bit, I came across a couple of IL-62M airline livery textures for a newer version of the (well-regarded) PT IL-62M model...which a/c, I picked up to give a try... So, please find, below, 6 pictures, 3 each, of Aeroflot IL-62M, in two different registrations (RA-86533, RA-86535), in the colors of new Aeroflot...(please note the subtle difference between the "silver" and "white"color tones, of these two Aeroflot liveries, and, also, note the bolder titles on the newer "white" livery...)... When the Il-62 (with an apt NATO reporting name "Classic") was launched (and flew) in 1963, it immediately won the distinction of being the world's largest jet airliner of the time,...yes, though its first-flight post-dated the first-flights of (B707/DC8/VC10)...it was longer than each of those 3 (narrow-body, long-haul) quad-jets (at 174 ft plus, it was longer by a good margin of about 20 ft, compared to the lengths of the others that were in the 150s range...)...And, "Once The World’s Largest Plane" title, for any plane, always implies some aspects of originality and novel design considerations...as was the case here, too,... Il-62M was powered by the Soloviev D-30 engines (which may be considered equivalent to the Pratt & Whitney's JT8D), that also powered the likes of Tu-154 and Il-76. To appreciate the sounds of the Il-62M (and the Soloviev D-30 engines), I invite you to watch this 3 min (YouTube) video of this impressive jetliner. Please search for "Aviaenergo Ilyushin Il 62M/VIP", and, you may keep the audio volume up, but, of course, with due consideration for nearby dear ones and loved ones...🙂..., (btw, I happen to be reminded, here, of the classic warning from David Maltby, about his VC10 sounds..."David Maltby accepts no liability for damage to hearing, hi-fi equipment & speakers, property, family & friends, pets, fruit & veg, garden hoses..."...)... And, as an aviation enthusiast, one cannot but notice the similarity between the Ilyushin Il-62 and the Vickers VC10, these two been the only commercial airliners with four engines fitted in paired nacelles by the sides of, and beneath, the T-Tail...(very hard not to take notice of...visually...). So, for completeness and comparison, I've also included below, 4 pictures, 2 each, of the VC10, in the classic colors of BOAC (Circa 1964) and BA (Circa 1976). Enjoy...!! [PT (IL-62M), JF (VC10)]
July 18, 20214 yr Commercial Member The IL-62 and VC-10 were simply grandiose aircraft of their era. In those years, the development of aviation and especially large and long-range aircraft was at the very forefront of progress and now it is difficult to say which of the aircraft was more technologically advanced. Unfortunately, I have never flown as a passenger on the Il-62, although at the same time I was lucky to fly as a passenger on the Tu-154, Tu-134, An-24, Yak-40, L-410 and An-2. I still think that the IL-62 is a particularly grandiose and simply beautiful aircraft from the outside, which was created in the USSR. July 20, 20214 yr Author Folks: Many thanks...!! 17 hours ago, edetroit said: Can you open the clamshells (reversers) above ground with that IL-62 model? Ed: Now you're asking probing questions...🙂... Frankly, I have not flown such an intricately simulated Russian plane...since the PT Tu154B-2, which, I recall, I was flying regularly, but, that was years ago, in FSX days, before I rejoined FSX/SE, after a break of several years....have never got back to it...but, this PT IL-62M may now get me into it with some seriousness.... First of all, Ed, this "newer" model of IL-62M from PT, seems to have been released, just a few months ago, in March of this year (2021). The 62M download comes with a well-written (in English) 92-page manual...would be a handful for me, but, seems interesting...and, I'm still to fully understand the Autopilot etc. operations....(see one picture below of the Autopilot panel, that is shown for it)...it will surely take me a bit of time to do a proper A-to-B flight... As far as I can tell, from the README, the "reverser" simulation has not been modified in this revision, and remains unchanged from the earlier model. BTW, to get to this latest model, please search in AVSIM.SU Forum for "www.avsim.su/forum/topic/198389-пт-ил-62м-бета-2-fsx-p3d-34-p3d-45/". I had not visited that forum in recent memory, so, had to dig up my login, to download the file. I recall you've working knowledge of Russian, so, you can probably visit the Russian version of the Forum... Hope, you can get your answer, for this latest model, in their Forum... I will also test the reverser once I come to grips with properly setting up the plane and its Joystick assignment rules etc.... Here is the Autopilot Panel I'm studying...

Personally I am not interested in this model, I like Edgar's https://www.avsim.su/f/fs2004-originalnie-samoleti-40/fs2004fsx-aeroproyecto-il-62m-v2-0-58065.html Edgar is one of those rare just really nice people who I want in my life. His IL-62 model does have the distinctive clamshells open before touchdown and tail stand movement. Bon chance with the PT IL-62. The autopilot is the easy bit, it's the RSBN navigation that is the work. A great exercise. In my panel I automated it. 🤣 My FS Videos

And, you're right, Ed, the AP controls, with the help of a mnemonic, should be easy to manage....but, myself, not being a Pro, in such airliner business, as you're, the "navigation" is altogether a different matter, for me... It says, it has 3 navigational systems simulated (i) Doppler NV-PB (ii) Dual INS (iii) GPS KLN-90B. I think I can handle (ii) and (iii), but (i) is completely foreign to me, but interests me the most. In the Tutorial flight based on the "NV-PB system", it says, "It's 1500 KM flight (USSS->UNNT), it will keep us busy during the flight, but will also give some time to breathe in between and have a coffee..."...🙂...sounds good... Anyway, Ed, I'll take it slow here, but, I do like this plane (IL-62M) as a diversion exercise....will (eventually) try to fly it the way it should be flown...(I'll also check out the other 62m SIM you've indicated above)....
July 21, 20214 yr After those exercises I'm pretty sure you won't be saying like most uninformed folk "The Il-62 is just a copy of the VC-10"😄 Don't forget "Standard Manoeuvre Mode" 😎 My FS Videos
July 30, 20232 yr I realy like this aircraft. However is there a way to let the AP follow the standard FS GPS instead of the KLN90 GPS? The reason I'm asking is, because of I have ISG Sim and it is easyer to create a flightplan than with KLN90 Kind Regards Patrick

ISG, as I recall, was a good piece of aviation (SIM) software add-on. Anyway, I didn't try standard FS GPS based navigation on this a/c, but I now recall, I did simulate the PT-62M manual for the latter two (of the 3) methods of navigation (INS and KLN-90B). The (English) manual is available on-line. Please see if you can test it for yourself...Have fun either way. It's a challenging but rewarding experience, nonetheless... Cheers ...!! 7 hours ago, wain said: Great shots.. Glad you liked the images, Wayne. You surely mean both the IL-62M and the VC10 ...🙂 ... Who knows JF might bring the VC10 into the MSFS domain one day...Something tells me you would then acquire it soon enough...🙂 ...
August 4, 20232 yr @P_7878 Hi I'm aware of the switches, but none of them follows the FS GPS. Kind Regards Patrick
