July 15, 20214 yr Back at Travis again. I really like this bit of scenery (at Simmarket) - I've got a couple of French Airbases as well and I'm always interested in a well modelled military base like this (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travis_Air_Force_Base for more info). So, I had planned to do a full flight to KLGB, but I got a CTD somewhere south of San Jose. I suspect because I was using the version of the C-17 from .to based on the UKMil model but with the default 747 VC. My own converted model is based on the Virtavia one, but has absoulutely no working gauges, so I figured I'd try the one with the 747 interior. Worked quite well at first, but I was obviously overreaching by trying to use the FMC and AP. Set up the flight ok (seemingly) and got going ok, but was doing the roller coaster thing and then CTD'd. I had been recording that flight, but on the playback here I substituted my own converted model as I figured I didn't need gauges for a replay and I prefer the visual model anyway. Seemed to work, so I might use the same technique (sans AP) to try and finish off the flight. KLGB is also an add-on airport and has the Boeing C-17 maintenance sheds, so I figured it would be a valid trip. Anyway, here's some shots from the first bit of the flight, mainly to show off the KSUU scenery. 06.00 on the runway, but then delayed for a bit so took a look around the base via the drone before finally getting clearance to depart. All my usual 4k shots, settings all maxed out plus LOD at 350, and on this trip (though not particularly relevant here) I'll be running with PG on for the replay, and so in these shots. On the runway, but delayed for some reason so let's take a tour round the base. From Wiki - Travis Air Force Base (IATA: SUU, ICAO: KSUU, FAA LID: SUU) is a United States Air Force air base under the operational control of the Air Mobility Command (AMC), located three miles (5 km) east of the central business district of Fairfield, in Solano County, California, United States.[2] Situated at the southwestern edge of the Sacramento Valley and known as the "Gateway to the Pacific," Travis Air Force Base handles more cargo and passenger traffic through its airport than any other military air terminal in the United States. The base has a long and proud history of supporting humanitarian airlift operations at home and around the world. Today, Travis AFB includes approximately 7,260 active USAF military personnel, 4,250 Air Force Reserve personnel and 3,770 civilians.[3] Travis AFB has a major impact on the community as a number of military families and retirees have chosen to make Fairfield their permanent home. It is the largest employer in the city and Solano County as well, and the massive Travis workforce has a local economic impact of more than $1 billion annually. The base also contributes many highly skilled people to the local labor pool.[3] The base's host unit, the 60th Air Mobility Wing, is the largest wing in the Air Force's Air Mobility Command, with a versatile fleet of 26 C-5 Galaxies, 27 KC-10 Extenders, and 13 C-17 Globemaster III aircraft. Finally cleared, so off we go Steep climb out And off towards the Bay Part two (over SF) to follow enjoy! July 17, 20214 yr Superb shots, Andy. Sorry to hear of your CTD with the .to version. Maybe I didn't get a CTD, because I never flew this version longer than 30 minutes and didn't use the FMC. Any attempt to stretch fuel is guaranteed to increase headwinds My specs: AMD Radeon RX6700XT, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB RAM, 34" monitor, screen resolution: 2560x1080
