October 10, 20205 yr Commercial Member Just wanted to inform that users of FStarter from rksoftware can move the airplane that is located in a parking position and ready to taxi to any of the airport runways. This is helpful if you start at a gate or any other parking positions, prepare for the flight and start your airplane, and want to skip the long taxing to the runway. Just open Airport , select the runway and click start flight. This is just an example of another way of using the Airport Traffic Pattern function in FStarter. Does it allow a user to move from one parking position to another? At unfamiliar airports I have found myself locked into the narrow corridors between rows of T-hangars where the corridor is closed off at one end by a fence, and blocked in the open direction by a parked aircraft. KLUK, Lunken Field in Cincinnati is a prime example. Very frustrating to be forced back to the Main Menu, try another airport parking spot, and have it happen yet again. Like watching paint dry. At unfamiliar airports I have found myself locked into the narrow corridors between rows of T-hangars where the corridor is closed off at one end by a fence... I'm guessing you didn't know this was possible in the default planner and works wonderfully. I'm in the middle of a flight now so I don't want to stop to take a screen shot but it is really a marvelous feature: when you select your departure airport simply click the Zoom to Details button whereupon you can click any parking spot and your plane is put there, then make that your Departure. If an area of the apron you're looking to go is obscured by a label in the zoomed view, just select a different runway, your plane goes there instantly, then you will see the other parking dots that were obscured by the label, and you can re-choose one of those. This is really a nice feature. Plus, in G3000 equipped planes you can zoom all the way in when you are preparing to taxi and do not need to open the IFR map--it's pretty easy to choose your taxi path that way and it has worked perfectly for me, so no need to use the (heinous) taxi ribbon, which we hope will be replaced w/ something discreet and toggleable. I'm sure (because I've done it several times already!) that people will be quite disappointed with this feature or that because they haven't learned about what is built-in to address the issue at hand. Another fabulous enhancement over FSX/P3D is the ability to enter a flight plan from w/in the TBM930's MFD, and it communicates w/ ATC correctly. So one can land, park, go in for coffee to the airport cafe, then hop back in and create a whole new IFR plan from the position, w/o the need to go to the main screen. Love it! Well did you choose a departure spot for example close to the runway apron at say straight up from the corner of the sign? Also, if that has happened to me unawares I just hit the exterior view, pan around to see what's behind, then do pushback straight back. So no, not sure what the problem is for you. I had this happen early on from my home airport but since using these tools have yet to have any more issues like that. Not going to post two screenies here. The way out is blocked and there is a fence in the other direction. So to evade this issue requires the time to go back through the Main Menu, come back in, and try another spot, hoping not to find the same situation. I was attempting to find a usable parking spot to save for future use. Like if it were my home airport and it were my hangar. So from here, not from the main menu, let me choose another spot. Timed it. Have a very fast system, lightening fast internet, and 100% SSD's and it takes 3 minutes just to try another spot. I give, why don't you use the zoomed view and choose a location near the end of a runway so ultra unlikely to be stuck in a corridor. You can plainly see clusters of parking spots--only choose ones that are not in a cluster. Since the very first time I did this by accident, by following this ultra simple logic have yet to get anywhere near stuck. Easy peasy. It is planned to be a feature later, but the SDK needs to be improved first. If you are stuck in an parking position, you can always go to any of the airport's runways without going back to main menu.
October 10, 20205 yr In that situation, I would just SLEW the aircraft to a new position. Wouldn't have thought to go clear back to the home menu.... SLEW is great for rotating the plane in narrow confines as well. Ground navigation is a big part of aviation, but sure see a lot a planes "appear at the entry to the runway". I like the traffic, but still getting used to lots of folks cutting corners...
