August 18, 20205 yr There’s something I’m curious about, but I can’t test myself yet. I’m waiting for the new nVidia 3000 series boards to reach the market, and who knows the new 4000 series AMD processors will come soon too. I understand that the mouse can be used, with a right click to move the camera, or the drone, around. I have my joystick in my right hand … to operate the camera with the mouse I’d have to let go of the stick. What I like to accomplish is to use joystick with 5 or 6 degrees of freedom which I plan to build myself for camera control. I heard that it is possible to use an Xbox controller to move the camera. My question is if it’s also possible to select another controller, like a joystick, for the camera control? I’d appreciate if an MSF owner could say something about the options available for camera control? Then I can start building and have it finished in time. Always have fun --0-- Flight Sim Navigation
August 18, 20205 yr I really miss using the hat switch to pan around... I haven't yet found a way to do it. I hope it's possible. Edited August 18, 20205 yr by DChockey08

Very disappointing indeed, and I'm very surprised I didn't see this issue brought up all this time. I'm wondering whether this was reported in the Alpha or it's just few of us using the hat switch to pan the camera. Doing so was stock behaviour in previous versions of Flight Simulator and Microsoft Flight so I can't imagine why this would be any different now.
August 18, 20205 yr Fairly sure the POV HAT can be mapped: ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.

It has been brought up many times in the alpha forums, lots of people have issue with the lack of it but the drone thing keeps being brought up so I will soon see whats what now we have full version. August 18, 20205 yr You should be able to map View directions to the hat (POV) switch. What input device are you using? Where it gets tricky is if your input device isn't supported by a default profile in the sim (my CH Flight Sim Yoke is not) or if the default mappings don't do what you want. You then get to figure out the Control configuration screen! The sim treats each type of "View" separately, and each has a menu of directional controls that you can map to any input on any device. The Cockpit View, Instrument View, External View, Drone View, etc. are mapped separately (sorry I'm doing this from memory). Typically you are also given the option for snap views vs free movement. I haven't worked personally with a ton of different peripherals (I also have Thrustmaster h/w that I've used in the sim and I'm using an Xbox Controller to "fly" the drone) so there may be a unique situation that is creating your issue. I'm not trying to over simplify but the Control configuration screen, while frustrating to learn, has a lot of flexibility.

Not sure which is my in-game name, since I remember that it was different in Microsoft Flight compared to my gamer tag. I'll let you know once the download is complete and the game is up and running.

It was a disappointment for me in alpha testing, sometimes you don't realize how much you miss something (smoothly panning views on the hat switch) until it is gone. I went so far as to connect an xbox controller just for the smoothly panning views on its hat switch, but it was just too clumsy having a second controller to mess around with constantly (changing views) while flying. I think I'm going to wait for VR support so I can for the most part bypass this panning issue (and the lack of FSX-like optional key binding profile).

August 18, 20205 yr Analog hat switch (VKB Gunfighter MK III) works great for view control. An analog hat switch on your custom build joystick should work very well too. (Normally I prefer mouse view, but the analog stick control in MSFS is very smooth and likeable.) Edited August 18, 20205 yr by Gomoto
August 18, 20205 yr I think I’m close to having a solution.
