What's the best type of mechanical switches for flight sim?

Featured Replies

I've been reading up and watching a lot of videos regarding the different types of switches when it comes to mechanical keyboards. I will be purchasing one for my new build. But I am still not sure which would be best for my typical use. I use my computer mainly for flight simming, and gaming. I play occasional FPS games like Battlefield V, and steam games. Most of the games I play using the Xbox One controller. The only games that I can think of that I would use a keyboard for is FPS games. I also surf a lot, email, chat, forums, and do creative work using Adobe Creative Suite. The switches are the GX Blue (Clicky), GX Brown (Tactile), GX Red (Linear). How would the blues be in my case? Would it work for FPS games? I'm not a hardcore competitive gamer, just a casual.

It's really personal preference.  Some don't like the noise of the clicky versions, some don't like the heavier touch of the tactile versions.

A good quality one of any kind will last a very long time, even in heavy use.

I prefer clicky switches, but it’s completely user preference. I like having feedback, so linear switches were out. I don’t find most of the tactile switches to be quite as, well......tactile as the clicky switches. The biggest draw of a mechanical keyboard for me is the fact that you don’t need to bottom out the keys and tire your fingers during long typing sessions, which is what the clicky switches excel at. If you’re unsure, the best move may be to purchase a switch tester and try them all out.

I don’t care for the Logitech low-profile GL clicky switches because they actually register a keystroke ever so slightly before the click and tactile response. This causes me double letters when typing rapidly, as my brain instinctively presses the key again when not receiving the feedback before my eyes can register the character is already there. That may not be an issue below 90 or 100 words per minute though.
