Wing flex

Featured Replies

Anyone wondered why we haven’t seen any wing flex in any of the videos yet?

I would have thought wing flex would be fundamental to their 1000 point forces calculation as the angle of the surfaces would change and hence result in a different force applied. Therefore I feel like it would be implemented early in the build so if it is planned to still be added, it would just be a visual thing...

There is a shot of the A320 about to land and it looks like the wings are flexed up.

It is unknown by know if the flex is affecting the wing points dynamically or just a visual and correct me if I'm wrong.

Which of the aircraft in these videos would you expect to see wing flex anyway? They aren't really particularly flexible apart from a bit on the airbus.

Aww, I'll miss my 787 pigeon.

But yeah, most of the planes they showed shouldn't really flex unless they are under extreme conditions. I noticed the A320 during the landing seeming to flick up just a tad.

I don't see wingflex on the 747. Neither down on ground nor up in flight.

The only thing I've seen wing flex on is airliners and sailplanes.  I've read about fairly dramatic wing flex on the DC-3 in really rough weather.  They said they could see the engine nacelles moving.

I don't remember flying in a 747, but you can bet there will be some wing flex.  Much smaller airliners have it.

Some is an understatement 😉

Generally aircraft with wing mounted engines have much more wing flex than with tail mounted engines.igVdz.jpg

I am sure it will come, it's not a game breaking feature if it isn't there right away.

I guess we'll see once we have some videos of airliners flying inside turbolent air

#turbo lent, Love it

No, you are right. Even though I must admit. I find wingflexing very satisfying to watch IRL 🙂

Flexing wings, as long as it is accurately modelled, would be nice, but it wouldn't be in my top 10 wishlist. I've seen wingflex in older sims where there were only a couple of shapes modelled, so you would see the wing jump from neutral to 15% wingflex in an instant.

On the other hand, if they can produce it believably, it would be both nice especially on sailplanes or smaller aircraft, where it is another warning of extreme stress.

A 747 without flexing wings would look like an RC model.

English is not my first language, so some mistakes from time to time can still appear 🙂

Either way i think that is the easiest way to see if some form of wing flexing is implemented into the sim.

Wing flex in a physics sense with effects on the flight model - yes please!

Wing flex that looks pretty from the cabin - not so bothered.

Forgot how to speak English.

I want both. Primarily for the flight model. But also in terms of immersion. It does not have to look like that tho.
