Now that the 747 v3 is around the corner, please tell me what are your opinions on the two platforms, FSX SE vs P3D. I haven't even tried P3D yet but I know I should make the move sooner or later. Is it now the best time to carry my simming stuff over? Since it's going to be a rather significant expense to buy P3D and also the 747 (+ some other addons perhaps), I would like to know if it's still worth it. I recently built a new computer with the following specs: i7 6700K @ 4.2 GHz (O/C) air cooled, ASUS Z170 PRO Gaming/Aura, Corsair 2x8GB DDR4 3GHz, MSI Nvidia Geforce GTX1060 6GB DDR5, 3x SSD, Windows 10 Pro

Your rig is pretty decent. You could probably overclock the cpu higher, at least if you add water cooling. Sounds to me like you're all set to go balls in in p3d FSX ain't exactly the future...

In my eyes P3D is not the future but X Plane is.

 

Otherwise: P3D is still under development, so why not? You can try it with a developer license for one month - that's how I did it.

Xplane might be the future, but right now, p3d has more to offer than xp - AND it has a bright future. I have both.

I've flown Microsoft FS my whole simming career. I switched to FSX:SE and upgraded my rig to compensate for newer addons. Honestly, I've had a few CTD and OOM in the past year, 95% caused by me being a bully to the sim and pushing it beyond it's limit. I recently did a 17 hour flight OMDB-KIAH, and it was uneventful performance wise, and it seemed to only have a toll on my computer itself falling asleep. I see P3D pictures and I am slightly jealous of the way it looks compared to FSX. But I am happy with FSX, and I say if you have a good set-up, FSX will do you well. I will stay with FSX until the end of add on companies making products for it, such as they did for FS9.

Honestly if you are really thinking about it do it now. The more you wait (or better say the more you buy where you'd have to choose) the more expensive it'll be. For me there was much more than just cloud shadows, and slightly better performance. I never looked back. Just recently the last FSX files have left my drive.

Hello, my system almost the same as you, and I have the same concern as you. Just a head up that P3D and DTG probably going to release their 64bit simulator in the near future. And I am pretty sure that both of them going to charge you for their new sim. Especially P3D since they have charged customers for upgrading v1-v2-v3, I don't see the reason why they do not charge for the next version, and it is expensive!

 

If you upgrade P3D now, you invest quite a lot of money there. BUT, if money is not an issue for you, go for it, definitely go for it.

I'm using FSX:SE for that reason, yes, I see the pictures and the videos of P3D and it makes me crazy and want to get it, but for the price of P3D V3, and for the price of all the PMDG aircrafts that I have to rebuy. Oh no.

Nothing wrong with FSX.

P3d is the same with more problems it seems. Same add-ons available so will look the same.

 

Will PMDG release another updated 747 after this one? Pretty likely no. So this one will work the same now on FSX as it will on P3D v8.4..8.1.0.0.1 hot fix # 98.0.1.0.3.0.5.6.1.0 in 15 years time. And will still have vas/oom issues.

 

A max out FSX with 8 x MSAA and 8 x SGSS looks amazing carefully tweaked performs faultlessly.

Buying the P3D version will get you the right for a free update for 64bit. There is nothing like that mentioned in the FSX license. That alone would be an argument for me to go for the P3D version.

64 bit means nothing.

Prepar3D was built for that system and is far superior to FSX, what are you waiting for? :wink:

I was flying FSX since the very beginning and I enjoyed it very much. I upgraded my Jetline Systems rig summer with the intention of switching to P3D to have a descent flying experience. I have to say that I never went back to FSX after I got my new upgraded system. I hear a lot of people having problems with their P3D but as of today, I have never had any problems with mine and I have an impressive performance.

 

You have a pretty good setup there so I'm sure you'll be quite happy with your new system and P3D.
