Are there any good ATC addon that works with P3D 2.5?

Featured Replies

Aaron why not buy a joystick etc before more addons, using a XBox control is really not a good way to go. If you want to get into sim'ing.

Jarkko, so do I use the SID/STAR that PFPX provides me with or from PATC? Also in PATC I have it configured and check to use ASN weather, should i also enable for PATC to download weather from a TAF source as well?

If you import a route from PFPX, you do not need to touch the SID/STAR selection in ProATC. ATC will automatically assign you the SID/STAR based on weather. If you get a SID/STAR you do not prefer, you can ask for a different one.

TAFs are not mandatory, to be enabled, but I have them downloaded every 30min (IIRC). It's good to have the TAF accessible for planning purposes, but not mandatory.

As these questions are some what support questions, instead of pre purchase questions, I would appreciate, if we could resume on the official support forum. The reason is that existing ProATC users have similar questions and it would be good to have conversations like these available to other ProATC users.

I remember there was a create SID/STAR automatically in PATC, so if I enable this, does this mean when I punch in for example EGLLOMDBCLR to get clearance on my FMC, it will load up the flight plan that PATC created along with the SID/STARS too? If not I guess I can just enter it in manually. And as far as exporting the wx file for PMDG 777 in PFPX, I guess I don't need to do that anymore since PATC is using ASN to get its weather from. But what about wind data? Before using PATC I would always export 2 files from PFPX, the route and the wx file. But now with PATC, how are we going to get wind data into our FMC since PATC uses its own file to load up the flight plan (exampe: EGLLOMDBCLR).

Your help is greatly appreciated. Sorry for the questions.

1) "create SID/STAR automatically": When flying with advanced aircraft like the ones from PMDG, please configure ProATC so, that you will enter the SIDs/STARs manually. The automatic SID/STAR creation is a fallback mechanics for the sim's default aircraft that do not know anything about SIDs/STARs.

2) "exporting the wx file for PMDG 777 in PFPX": I don't own the 777, but I would suggest that you keep importing the weather to the 777. The reason is, that the weather data should help the aircraft calculate optimal climb and descent profiles.

3) "I would always export 2 files from PFPX, the route and the wx file." Keep doing the same things as before. You could export 3 files out of PFPX. The one new one would be the SquawkBox3 format, which can be imported to ProATC.

4) "since PATC uses its own file to load up the flight plan (exampe: EGLLOMDBCLR)": This isn't quite how thing work inside ProATC. You have to create a completely separate ProATC flightplan with the route to fly, cruise altitude and alternate airport(s). When using PFPX, you don't have to create a ProATC from scratch, if you import PFPX SquawkBox3 flight plan into ProATC, you will get a head start with the route data already filled in for you.

Once you get clearance from ATC, ProATC can generate a "company route" (for exmaple EGLLOMDBCLR) for you based on the ProATC flight plan. This is optional phase. You could just use the PMDG flight plan you exported from PFPX. You just have to check that the SID/STAR matches the clearance ATC gives you. (I personally do not use the ProATC generated flight plan as I like to enter the route in manually)

Can we please continue on the support forum? There are multiple people who can answer questions. Here you are stuck with me ;) Thanks!
