Around the world in an old Tupolev

I barely know how to uses GPS. FMC, even a INS

I can only presume that you guys do not have the time….. because all three while they may look intimidating are quite easy to learn. IMO

Charl mentioned an aussie airport NZAA. It has a wonderful RNAV RNP approach…..ever flown a RNAV RNP approach? I had to write it for the awesome IFLY 737(as it's not readily available on Jepp charts) …..now that was difficult.

Sorry

Im the one who should be sorry (too much vino collapso) I meant NZQN not NZAA.

Where is that Tu-134 now anyway…… Hanoi?

  • Author

Yes, the Tu-134 is now in Hanoi.

However, today I flew from Luzhou ZULZ to Hanoi VVNB.

Regarding navigation tools, I really enjoyed the CIVA INS together with the DF 727 (however, without card changing automatic). Not that hard to learn, but the initializing process was quite time consuming. And then came Win7 and the danger to freeze FS2004 with one uncautious hit onto the F10 button - and the time was completely lost and the initializing process was to repeat. And I had this problem only with the DF 727. That's why I fly Tu-134 this season.

As stated above, I don't use all the navigational features of the Tu-134 as the KLN90B and RSBN (maybe the latter can't be simulated within FS2004 at all). I hoped that a member of this forum wrote an English tutorial, but obviously he isn't active here anymore.

Refreshments?

Drank a bottle of Vodka while flying in Russia. Didn't know what to drink in North KOrea, China and Vietnam. Will report before my next flight (what do they actually drink in Manila?).

... and/or to the FPS of this nice but very performance-hungry scenery (RPLL Ultima 8.1 by L. Espada).

I'm quite sure that a Tu-134 has never seen the next airports in reality: Manila RPLL to Yap PTYA. It needed some calculation to find the waypoints to Guadalcanal, which is in fact the aim of every year's RTW tour. I choose the route via Yap where the waypoints are within the Tu's range (maybe I need a fuel stop in Rabaul, if conditions aren't good).

Finally there: From Yap PTYA to Honiara Henderson Field AGGH. Traditionally, from now on I am on my way home again. After I visited AGGH almost every year since I started flightsimming, it was nevertheless quite exciting to come here with a Tupolev.

Thanks Dillon! Indeed, this is quite the way back home that I plan to take. After some days of resting, my next aim will be Ballina YBNA, home of a respected Avsim mate btw.

I don't often check on the screenshots forum and until Harald's gentle nudging I was quite oblivious to his journey this winter.

Fabulous record Harald.  :clapping:  I submit viewing all 6 pages at the one time provided a finer degree of continuity to better enjoy your experiences, rather than in a piecemeal manner.

I'm afraid these days I lack the patience, and attention span it must be said, to embark on such a project.

That Tupolev is quite an attractive aircraft ... it grows on you.  <_<

If ever I were to emulate your trip I would probably choose the Eaglesoft Cessna Citation X.  Apart from being more luxurious (nice companion too,) faster with greater range there is something about cruising at 48000' far above the airliners.  At that height who cares whether Evo or GE pro is better?

I certainly shall return to check on your progress.  Safe and happy skies mate.

Hi Appliance, thanks for your kind reply.

Yes, I get more and more familiar with the Tupolev. And it has its charme to cruise at, let's say, FL 320 or 330. I like to look at my textures... Had to change back to my GE textures in Manila (where suddenly spring textures were displayed, and Sascha isn't yet ready with them), and all was so greyish and colourless. How do you judge Evo around your home town - ?

Ballina YBNA to Sydney YSSY (just for having been there with the Tu - last time I was there was with FS98)

I like this Czech L-200 Morava! Would be a nice tour to fly it from Kunovice to Ballina. Or vice versa...

Harald the daredevil landing his Tupolev in a tailwind.

ATC advised me to do so.

Lock up your wives and daughters and hide your vodka, Harald is coming down under!

I'm not interested in women, I just need the Vodka. The Tu consumes a lot of it.

Harald in the final shot is that a crosswind or the vodka?

I agree with you the L-200 Morava is very interesting, but a long way from home.  I'll do some research on her now that you have sparked my interest.

Nice shots otherwise and doesn't Sydney look just spectacular.  Thanks for taking such a fine portrait.  B)
