Yeah my own test comparisons between 670, 780 and 780ti show minimal gain.. but.. thats with FSX, not prepar3D which is more GPU based.. and the extra power could come in handy with surround 3D mode if applicable (and works).. at least was my thought, but maybe not for 10% increase and extra cost.. 

 

Prepar3D is like a wildcard I guess.. wont know till we can benchmark and compare similar setups.

Given the choice between 780 and 780ti (price difference of $170), for 5760 high resolution tri screen and Prepar3D 2.0.. which to go with.. since the GPU is more important this go round? What do you guys think.. Maybe not much of a difference I'm guessing.

 

For multi-monitor, R9 290X is the best choice. The GTX 780 Ti is much better than the GTX 780 at resolutions up to 2560x1440, but thanks to its 48 ROPs (same as GTX 780), it chokes itself at anything higher than that.

 

So R9 290X (or R9 290) which has 64 ROPs and performs greatly at 4K resolutions and higher, or wait for Maxwell if you want NVIDIA. Were you gaming at 1080p or 1440p, GTX 780 Ti would be the best choice.

Curious though.. even with more ROPs, i'd think the pixel paths would still come into play.. set to 4xSparseGridSupersample for instance, suddenly this would induce a bottleneck in the pixel shaders (again).. maybe.

 

Not sure if this is accurate.. but take the 780ti.. 1920x1200 * 3 screens * 2 views in 3D (as worst case) = 13.8MP.. Ti with 42 GP/sec fill rate.. theoretical max being 3043 fps without AA anyway.. all depends on then, how the ROPs handle AA and/or polygon generation on the screen, if it uses good coding and does z buffering to optimize drawing pixels/frames.

Those R9 cards are a lot cheaper, which is very interesting. I do hope P3D will make good use of them: if so, I might switch to AMD after all those years of using nVidia. I do hope that someone will do some thorough tests with both cards!

That particular card has no dvi-i.. interesting.. for folks that have a screen like mine.. westinghouse L2410nm.. with flaky EDID.. having dvi to analog makes the picture crisp as opposed to washed out.. good reason to switch to newer 3D screens i guess :)

4x SGSSAA just doubles your resolution. If one were playing at 1920x1080 with 4x SGSSAA, the game would actually be rendered at 3840x2160 (4 times the pixel amount) and then downscaled to 1920x1080. So this is barely any different than playing at 4K resolution. It's not something complex really, it tasks your GPU as much as double the resolution would. In your case where you are playing at 5760x1200, 4x SGSSAA means your GPU is rendering at 11520x2400. 64 ROPs would make an even greater difference in here.

 

Anyway, while AMD's newer offerings are best for very high resolutions, it's hard to recommend them for anything else because they're very hot and consume lots of power (up to 400W in some cases), and without an aftermarket cooler, it will be throttling heavily. If you want to keep FSX too, then definitely wait for Maxwell.

Before you switch from NVidia cards, you may want to wait a bit and see how NVidia's G-Sync pans out.

G-Sync also requires new monitors that include the G-Sync module. So it's not just a matter of having a Kepler GPU.

 

I'm definitely going with G-Sync in the future, but I don't think theskyisthelimit would want to replace his 3 monitors.

You will be able to purchase adapters for some monitors, once G-Sync is released. My point is that this is something else to keep an eye on.

But for anyone who is willing to buy a new monitor should definitely look into this.

Thanks for clarifying that. I just recently heard about G-Sync, but I am going to keep an eye on it (although I'm not ready for a new monitor for white a while).

Oh, it was announced on October 18th, just a little more than a month ago. I saw its announcement from a live stream.

 

I'm keeping this monitor for a long time since 1080p content is still the standard, but I'm definitely getting a 4K G-Sync monitor in the future.

I'm sticking with my 19" @ 1280x1024. Fewer pixels to push around.

Whoa! What a coincidence.  :lol:

 

I recommend that you wait until G-Sync monitors come out in early 2014. You might find the same or a similar monitor from ASUS with the G-Sync module pre-installed.
