REX product support?

Featured Replies

I think REX is a very good product kept from being an exceptional product by really pathetic technical support.  I paid for, but never was successful in installing, REX for FS9, with Overdrive.  The Overdrive add-on just will not load without errors.  Now I see on their site that they have an "automatic updater" available, but sure enough that link is faulty and leaves me empty-handed, once again.  A typical answer from the developers is "were very busy at the moment".  My problem is quite common and even though I am a registered owner of their product, I cannot post to their customer help line, perhaps because I purchased it through Flight 1.  I still enjoy their cloud effects immensely in my sim, but I wish I could just get what I paid for.

I find it strange that you would post here and cry foul about out support even though you never posted for support in our forum.

A typical answer from the developers is "were very busy at the moment".

Really? I don't remember any correspondence from you, so where do you get this?

I cannot post to their customer help line, perhaps because I purchased it through Flight 1.

No reason to become political here, our product is not sold through Flight 1.

Our support forum is located here, as you're well aware: http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/forums/

To receive support you must be verified, and can be done via this thread: http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/forums/index.php?/topic/15044-support-forum-verification/

It says in the the upper right hand corner of the REX for 2004 Support page "You cannot start a new topic", although I am logged in.

Your developer used this answer to someone inquiring about the update for Overdrive for FS 2004:

"Dave,
You aren't missing it, {he is looking for an Overdrive update } we're extremely far behind and cannot give another date. Sorry."

This was for an update that was promised on your site for sometime in March.  If your follow the link for the latest version of Overdrive,  you still do not get a useable link to download Overdrive,  which again, I paid for when I bought your download in Dec. of 2012 from FlightSim Store (my error in initial post).

Since you have taken in interest in my comment, perhaps we can determine a solution to this difficulty,  since I am able to post here without any problems, it might be of interest to others.

First, you didn't pay for OverDrive, you paid for REX. OverDrive is FREE.

You obviously did not read my above reply in regards to posting for support, or simply don't care, either way OverDrive for FS9 has been ready as promised.

You also didn't bother to look in the proper area of the forum labelled "SOFTWARE UPDATES (SERVICE PACKS / UPGRADES)", to which you would have found what you're looking for, so allow me to point you to the proper place for the download: http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/forums/index.php?/forum/23-fs2004/

If you require support from us, simply read my reply above.

Hi Forkedtail,

Yep sorry my friend, but the "Auto installer and updater" you mentioned in your post isn't ready yet,it appears in the forum as "Soon to be released" or something like that, but not just yet.

As for Rex being unhelpful, I wouldn't say that, you do now have to verify your Rex product on their forum page which they have given you the link to above, this was because some people were getting pirate versions of Rex so they asked everyone to contact them with purchase details, it took only seconds to sort out. All the updates you require are freely available on their updates section of their forum, you just have to check the update versions are the ones you require.

In fact they are working on a problem for me right now, and seem quite helpful and I can't complain.

Hope this helps some,

Happy Flying,

Dave Phillips.

I think that his condescending attitude is interesting in light of the fact that his "free" program has virtually no read me instructions on how it should be installed other than a later caution on their so-called support site that mentions that you have to  install the Overdrive add-on from within the main Rex program, whatever that means.  There are multiple references to this problem from many customers on their help site.  Most of them seem to have been resolved, but they don't relate what was done to resolve the issues.  Isn't that what a help site / knowledge base would be for?  To share knowledge?

Too bad that this needed to be aired outside the structure of their own web page, but the way they have it organized, they are begging for criticism.

Why did he not just say: "Get in touch with me and I will help you resolve your problem.  I will need some proof of purchase and and a summary of what you have tried unsuccessfully so far."  Instead he just became indignant even though I have praised and recommended his FS enhancement program several times here recently and posted some beautiful screen shots.

Questions asked,

questions answered,

answers ignored,

so that's it.
