yea...these sorts of quick fixes (thrust scalar mods, parasitic drag scalar mods which ive also tried) tend to only work well at certain altitudes...for instance, with this air file mod, while you're able to reach 320 at FL260 you're also flying 314 at FL180 (18kts too fast).

I've done a few descents with the mod, and as long as I ease off on the throttle I can come in at the proper pattern and approach speeds. But as pointed out earlier, these mods do tend to only work for certain altitudes. There's another table that can be adjusted instead, but it throws the fuel flow out of whack. Typical "change one thing, and another thing gets messed up".

 

The only way to truly fix the flight profile and get the proper speeds at the proper altitudes is working multiple tables in the .air file. Aircraft.cfg tweaks won't fix the flight model. Unfortunately that can be a tedious process, beyond my time, that's for sure. Hence the quick fix, it works good enough for me--as I said better than increasing the prop thrust which made for unrealistic climbs.

 

I honestly don't think Carenado will do much to fix this.

John, I think for now I found a happy medium of 41 (instead of your 35). It may fall a bit short at FL250-FL260 (about 308-310TAS) but it now at least stays under 300kts below FL190 as it should...and it's slightly less slippery on descents.

I'll give it a try (although I really like cruising along at 320KTAS).  I'm still not having much trouble slowing down in my descents.  In fact, once I'm within 30NM of my destination and I hit 10,000 feet, if I slow my descent to -1000fpm speed bleeds off fairly quickly unless I increase throttle.

 

Are you doing your tests at full gross, btw?

Is there anyway to modify how much power is required when taxiing this thing on the ground? As was said on the previous page, in the real aircraft (haven't flown a TBM but have flown a Piper Meridian and this is what happens) you should need to pull back into beta just to keep it taxiing at a safe speed (currently you need ~50% torque just to get moving).

no...4894 + full fuel on takeoff (Carenado's default weight setup). I personally don't have issue with it being too slippery (more than it originally was before the edit), but that's because I only fly it under normal procedures, but there is a difference I can see, and I can understand how for instance performing an emergency descent will not work out as expected...but for me, I dont mind that because I like having the cruise speeds closer to normal now thru most of the altitudes while at the same time it wont climb like a rocket :-)

I believe it's probably table 1503 in the .air file (Corrected n2), but it's hard coded into the file and I don't know how to edit the hex.

This is probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. Is it just me or does TBM seem overly sensitive to the controls on final? When I have full flaps and the gear down, just touching my yoke or joystick (I tried with both just to make sure), it leads to big movements, especially vertically. I tried a few other add-on's to make sure (Carenado C90, RealAir Turbine Duke) and once the flaps and gear are down, response is sluggish. Does anyone know if a real world TBM 's behave like this or is it just me with my fists of ham not being gentle enough?

As far as pitch being too sensitive...dunno what your over the fence speed is like but you should try not to be faster than 80kias over the numbers, with touchdown coming around 75kias. I found 85-90 a tad high...but i guess it depends if you are fully loaded or not. Im talking about using the default weight and fuel. 85-87 on final slowing to 80 over the fence. Flare can be tricky but hold nose off by looking as far down the runway as possible while judging your descent rate.</p>

<p>The rudder was too sensitive for me so I decreased by 20%....from 1.0 to 0.8...still ok for 20kt xwind slip as real plane is rated.</p>

Unstable is a good word to describe it and it seems to be independent of speed. Trimming it vertically is a PITA.

I havent had much trouble as far as trimming the elevators...but maybe thats because I always trim down BEFORE takeoff...try trimming down enough before takeoff so that the trim gauge needle is centered in the T/O area of the gauge on the MFD and see if that helps. If not, maybe you need to adjust the button sensitivity that you have assigned for trim in the FSX controls menu. You can make it repeast more or less, whatever you need to make it comfy

I just found out something strange.

 

As soon as I use the mouse and the mouse pointer appears I get a huge FPS hit. When the pointer dissapears it takes a while and the FPS go up again. I used Fraps to confirm. I heard that the I-Fly 737 also had that problem at first.

 

Can anybody confirm this or is it just me...?

 

I have the same exact issue as Im sure many others do and may not have even noticed it. I have this problem in all my planes, though Ive never tested it with the defaults. I"ll be moving my mouse around clicking in the cockpit, maybe getting 25-40 fps....but then if i leave the mouse rest after it disappears the fps goes back up to about 60. Weird...Been that way for years...on my other pc as well.

Ok I totally take that back. It is not specific for this plane. I just found the same thing on other planes. I really never noticed...after years of FSX..... :unsure:

 

Lesson learned.

 

I was just so focused on the FPS in the TBM and Fraps because I was trying to optimize it with turning of one PFD measuring different modes on the MFD and the impact on FPS and so on. And this is way harder to notice without Fraps running in the back I guess.

 

Using the map still costs a lot of frames in this plane compared to other G1000 planes I have though.
