Improving FS2004's texture quality?

Featured Replies

It's the other way around. Default should be 4.5 and extended 9.5-Mikkel

Why does the Tips and Tricks section on the first page of this forum under Read me First thread say this then?:Q) How can I improve the look of the ground textures?A) Open your fs9.cfg file, and modify the following lines:TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.50000

My mistake...I got them mixed up. :)One thing though...why would the default radius be bigger than the extended, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. ??-Mikkel

I've set my fs9.cfg to those settings above, but I am still getting the 2 lines which degrade the sceneryeg:[image]http://wanderer.jazweb.us/temp/snap00176.jpg[/image]I know there is a setting to get rid of that, but for the life of me I cannot remember what it is....Can anyone help please???

I got rid of that using Anisotropic Filtering 16x. If I turn off AF, those lines appear. I didn't find any other way to get rid of that...

Try renaming your fs9.cfg and starting up FS9.This should create a brand new fs9.cfg with the defaults. The settings in your note are "not it".

"The settings in your note are "not it"."TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=0.000000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=0.000000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1307992Yes the default_radius and extended_radius are set at 0.0 default. The extended_levels defaults to a seven digit number, although that number seems to vary.At least that's the case on the several .cfgs I've seen from different systems.Kurt M

OK, I guess no two systems are alike, but on mine, the default is:TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=0.000000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=0.000000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=1and what I use for flying is:TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=2.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=6.000000 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=6

Just to revive this a bit, do these tricks work in CFS3? As I understand it, it uses pretty much the same engine, but (as I remember it, I haven't played it for ages), it's ugly as sin.
