September 14, 201213 yr Hi All, I am having a big problem with RC all of a sudden---I have been re-establishing my flight sim and getting all the little bugs sorted out with my PMDG, Navigraph Data, FSBuild, and Radar Contact flight plans----soooo!!! I get it all set up and load a RC plan into my PMDG 737NGX and wham---it moves my aircraft from the Gate at sfo out into the center of the airport and there is no RC running or text plack showing---Help Thanks for any information---Cheers Dorn Cranert
September 14, 201213 yr Since you rebuilt your system you need to insure your FS path in the registry is correct with the Registry Checker (free) from here: http://www.flight1.c...sp?page=library You may have to right click on that and select run as admin. make sure you have updated fsuipc from here: http://forum.simflig...pdated-modules/ (today at for FS9 3.999w and for FSX 4.855) and makerwys from: http://forum.simflig...ional-programs/ (today at 4.612) After installing an updated makerwys into your fs folder do the RC scenery rebuild. Be sure RC is started with a shortcut and its property set to run as admin. Then: If FS and RC are on the same pc just start RC and run the scenery rebuild insuring that you put in the correct full path to FS. If RC is on a WideFS client to an FS host, first run makerwys directly in your FS folder. After it completes start RC and run the scenery rebuild putting in the correct full network path to FS and then anwer Yes to the WideFS prompt and then elect to continue affirming you ran makerwys.exe first. To check that data was placed properly in RC\data compare in your FS folder the modified date time of r5.csv with the r4.csv file in your RC\data folder. It should be nearly the same. Please refer to this thread: http://forum.avsim.n...-latest-fsuipc/ if you still have problems. Run your tests with only RC and FS running to exclude other application influences. What you are experiencing can be either a possible conflicting scenery element due to priority settings as set up in your scenery library not being current or conflicting, or a system performance issue where RC is not getting data back from FSUIPC in time. A system symptom can be extremely low frame rates. Before starting RC after loading your flight up in FS be sure the frame rates are stable. The thread I referred to should give you some things to check including that your coordinates in your flight plan departure information match the data pulled from your scenery. Since you do not see the FSUIPC window I suspect a system timing problem or FSUIPC version problem. Don't forget to have your parked flight loaded with FS running and frame rates stable before you start up RC. That's the first item to check. In RC options to keep performance up be sure to have display text disabled. Select only Interact with ai and ai chatter and not prerecorded chatter. Please add your FS configuration and system configuration to your AVSIM profile. Recent rules require that these descriptions not be in a post. You'll see, for example, a few lines down from ny froggie avatar a link to "My PC's Specification" and "My Simulator". Adding that information to your profile might provide a clue as to performance and possible software conflicts.
September 15, 201213 yr Author Thank you Ron! This will take some time but I will work through it during the weekend---my Wedding Anniversary tomorrow and the NFL on Sunday may make this a slower than normal chore---I am retired tho and will get it done soon. Cheers and thanks for the in-depth reply---I really thank you for the time and effort Dorn Cranert
September 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member you have to set the fsuipc settings correctly to get the text box. those instructions are in the quick start section of the manual www.jdtllc.com/v4/rcv43.pdf the aircraft is moving because the plane isn't where you're going to be taking off from, when you start rc. load the .pln into fs first, then start rc jd JD Read my blog
September 15, 201213 yr Author The same problems persist after all the above mentioned advice---I really don't quite understand the instructions from JD about loading the plan into fs prior to starting rc---I load the plan into the PMDG FMC from FSBuild and then load the plan into fs by activating the plan via the PMDG FMC.---my plane still jumps to the center of the airport and there is no text block even tho I set up the FSUIPC as per instructions. I recently added a new navigraph cycle (does that effect anything?)---I am stumped. Should I just un-install the RC and download and install a new fresh copy? Cheers from Stumped Dorn
September 15, 201213 yr Commercial Member my plane still jumps to the center of the airport That occurs if RC's computed airport centre, which is apparently deduced from the runway positions, is more than x miles from your current position. There was another example of this posted here recently -- it turned out that the position RC saw was 0,0 (i.e. it didn't get the aircraft position at all (or at least, not in time). The reason appeared to be that with RC running on the same PC as FS and a number of other add-ons, it was not getting enough processor time -- and nor was FS. At the time it was started, FS's frame rates were very low indeed (10 or less) and I think RC's reads were timing out on all retries. I would have expected an error message to result, but maybe it doesn't check at that time. The solution in the other case was to not start RC until FS was good and ready, and its frame rates were back into the "flyable" range. Maybe the same answer will apply to the missing menu display. September 16, 201213 yr I am confused regarding the statement that you loaded a FSBuild plan into the PMDG FMC and then used the FMC to activate the plan for FS. I am not aware of the FMC exporting any plan into FS or FS format. I recommend you subscribe to at least one update for the FMC procedures from navigraph.com. For one subscription fee you can update multiple data formats, in this case for FSBuild and your PMDG 737NGX FMC. This insures that the portions of the SIDs and STARs that occur in the RC enroute phase are in sync for both pln files for the aircraft and RC when you load them up in each. Basically you build your plan in FSBuild, proof it, then after setting the export to FS9 or FSX option (for RC ) and the proper PMDG format, you rerun the build and the plans should be sent to the proper folders for for loading into RC and into your FMC. Now, where runway specific SIDs and STARs are used, you can export just the common waypoints for all runways and then use FMC guidance when you know the runway assignments. In FSBuild there is a build option that must be set for each FSBuild session called Build From Route Grid. Without an export do the first build including an SID or STAR in the route window. Now in the route grid display you have both the common SID/STAR waypoints and runway specific waypoints. Set the Build option to Build from the Route Grid table. You can now delete runway specific waypoints for within the first 30 nm from the departure airport and the last 35 nm from your arrival airport. Noe set your Export options for FS and PMDG and rebuild again. The plans excluding runway specific waypoints are now sent to your FS plan folder for RC and to the PMDG plan folder for import into your FMC. In RC preflight since you wasnt to navigate the first 30 nm on your own by FMC without RC vectors before you start RC choose one of the two departure options that refer to altitudes, not the No Departure option. When ground hands you the assigned runway update your FMC for that (and remember to update your V Speeds which are runway dependent). For arrival after being assigned the runway just past forty nm out ask for an IAP approach and then the type of approach for the assigned runway and then update your FMC for the STAR and Runway approach as needed. In both cases RC will not monitor you or issue commands for the first 30 nm (departure) and the last 35 nm (of arrival) letting you use your own navigation. Here attached is a hint sheet I wrote about using FSBuild with RC and navigation procedures in your aircraft instrumentation: I added this information here because of your statement about exporting\activating your flight plan from your PMDG FMC. I especially wanted to point out syncing RC as best as possible with your FMC for departure and arrival using runway specific procedures not known until dynamically assigned by ATC. Either way you want the same plan sent to FS for RC import and to PMDG for the FMC import to insure all is in sync. As a bit of humor we had a case where RC moved the aircraft from its parked position to a strange location. It turned out the plan sent to RC was for a different departure airport than where the aircraft was parked. It can happen though. Another issue was solved where the user had both FS9 and FSX installed and was using RC for both. In dual FS version operation there are two RC folders, one for FS9 and one for FSX. Be sure when running the scenery rebuild from the RC exe in your FS folder you input the path to FS9 and when you run the RC exe in your FSX folder and do the scenery build you point to your FSX folder. FS9 airports and FSX airports have different scenery coordinates and other data. This plus checking that your FS performance is stable and has reached normal speed (as Pete suggested) should solve your problem. One question I have to ask. Are you parked at a very distant remote parking spot when you aircraft is moved at very large airports? If so try selecting a spot closer the the runway center of the airport to see if that makes a difference. Now I assume RC is running on the same PC as FS. If so, go into your FS modules folder and if advdisplay.dll is there rename it to advdisplay.dlh to disable it. It is no longer used with RC. FSUIPC.dll provides the RC inflight menu and status display. It disturbs me that you stated you can not see it. With an aircraft loaded into FS showing as parked or however you decide and not in FS pause mode (the aircraft clock should be running) when you click the RC start button, RC should minimize and then the RC in flight window should show in your FS view. If not then it is some performance or other related issue. Be sure that in FS the option to pause on task switch is not enabled. FS must not be paused when you click the RC Start button. Regarding jd's statement about loading the .pln into FS first, that only applies to add-ons and default aircraft that require the plan be loaded into FS for navigation or other purposes.
September 16, 201213 yr Author I have a brand new yearly subscription to the Navigraph service and have used it for years---I have used all these programs for years without any problems or complicated computer fiddling ---I put in new PMDG Aircraft, New FSUIPC, New FSBuild, and New FSX because I was having too many small issues (the type of issues that occur when you have been flying for a long time without a clean install of all the FSX Add-ons)----this problem did not exist three days ago until I installed a new copy of FSUIPC. I feel that the problem is with RC since that is the program that does not work and causes all the issues. I have thousands of hours using these programs together---more than 25 years of flight sim experience---what do people think about a re-install of RC---it is the only program that is not new in my front line add-on group I forgot to mention that I just installed EZCamera to help with my AOA Tutorials---maybe I should un-install EZCamera and do a fresh install of RC Cheers Dorn
September 17, 201213 yr How does everything work with just RC and FS running? I'm not familiar with the Active Camera setup. Disable that first and see what happens. For this test keep your background processes down. Let us isolate the problem. Let us just test FS and RC using FSUIPC with nothing else running and if is OK then add one app after another until it breaks. If you want to check your processor and RAM use, you can use the task switcher profiles (ctrl-alt-delete) or this free utility from a Microsoft division: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653 What were interested here is in CPU idle time (in other words unused cycles) and any low RAM left. If Active Camera adds yet another graphic view port for display to render that could be quite a load even for a high end system. You should really add your computer and FS specs and apps to your profile so we can click on it to get an idea of your tech environment.
September 17, 201213 yr Author OK---We have a solution to this issue!!! First, let me thank all the people who have spent time trying to help me with this problem. Second, let me bury my pride and freely admit ---that is most often the case with these maddening flight simulator glitches/issues that the fix was a simple one, and had to do with the operator (in this case yours truly) not knowing (or forgetting) how to operate one of the linked together add-on FSX programs. I fixed the problem and will quickly describe how so that others (I see another long thread here in this forum concerning this issue) can quickly learn how to fix this issue. The problem: Flight sim jumps to the center of the airport when RC is activated, and the RC text box is not displayed. The solution: Operators of FSBuild can become confused during the construction of a flight plan when they see a message that the flight plan in FSBuild has been exported to FS9/FSX and PMDG after using the Auto Generate function. You must still BUILD the flight Plan after using the Auto Generate function or you will be forever trapped in the problem I encountered. Once again thanks for all the serious help and time spent trying to help me---Ps I did learn some interesting stuff to help me better enjoy RC and FSX in the future as a result on all your input. Cheers, Thanks---- Dorn Cranert
September 17, 201213 yr Glad you found your solution. Here's a paper I wrote about some more FSBuild procedures that may come in handy:
September 21, 201213 yr Author New information: I still seemed to have some problems after I thought that it was all solved with the FSBuild notes---HOWEVER the real problem (found after days of tedious testing) seems to be with Mega Scenery---I am not sure why---I will need to talk to Mega Scenery about this---I have all the mega scenery but at present only have it installed for the state of California--this is where and only where I get the RC shift to airport center with no text block problem---RC works at every other location and scenery that could test---more information as I find it. Maybe someone else may know about this. Cheers Dorn
September 22, 201213 yr Is runways.txt showing the pointers to its afcads as the last hits for these airports? I have Megascenery for New York and NorthEast area original FS9 version that does not include afcads, just photo textures during flying. On my poor rig I have it disabled. Are you talking about the Mega Airports series? Those are huge textures and can really drain your resources.
September 22, 201213 yr Author Ronzie, I have a very fast and powerful computer---the fourth or fifth in a Flight sim series made for me by my local computer Guru--going back 15 or so years. I have all the mega scenery earth scenery as well as the cool stuff like Hawaii---right now I have a new installation of FSX, PMDG 737NGX, FSBuild, and Radar Contact with only the Mega Scenery California installed into this new fresh FSX install. I have (for years--more than5 years) used these products together with countless other third party add-ons--every good known aircraft, scenery, weather, and any other cool enhancement without any problems. --it is only now that my RC will not work in the Mega Scenery Area. I have a support request in to Mega Scenery, and am waiting for a reply---I might uninstall all the Mega Scenery and re-install it, but just California is probably a two or three day project. I do not understand---"Is runways.txt showing the pointers to its afcads as the last hits for these airports?" as I am not very computer literate---I know how to operate my sim as I am a real life pilot--and I know how to operate my computer just because 25 years of use teaches you things by rote. Thanks for trying to help Dorn
