I guess MS Flight is the only thing left to watch out for...

Exactly wont see any buildings at the airports in X-Plane let alone real world buildings.
The X-Plane Devs have repeatedly said that they will soon be auto-populating airports with buildings after they get through this initial bug fix period. Furthermore, they have also stated that their art assets (textures, and auto-gen buildings) are currently incomplete, but they will be improving this over time. I'm pretty sure the x-plane sim that you are looking-down on today will be much improved over the next 18-24 months, and by then they should have a 64 Bit build ready -- so you will finally have a sim that can address more than 3GB of memory. At least the Laminar guys genuinely care about our hobby, the same cannot be said about Microsoft ... especially after this week.

Really? I thought I saw mention out and about how "The Community" can populate the 20,000, no wait 30,000, uh maybe it's 40,000, darn someone said 60,000 airports?!? Instead, all I see is "The Community" spending more time in the Flight forums then either flying or populating one airport, much less making a few hundred thousand buildings to fit into the CBDs of XPX.And I'm still looking for that part on the X-Plane web site that says my $mega_shok.gif.00 is buying a buggy version of some software. Can you help provide a link?I've figured out the XPX fanatics are spending so much time in the Microsoft Flight area because they're hoping maybe some will convert and start to place building. I can just imagine flying a big jet to some big airport and wonder "Where are the terminals...?"

Auto-populating doesn't sound too good either, if I may say so... So you get random buildings on airports...?

For me I will be sticking with FSX and trying out Prepar3d, X-Plane 10 and AeroflyFS.MS Flight is a non-starter for me even if it is free (to start with). I like the option of being able to fly from anywhere in the world even if the airports are basic (as in the default ones). I can't really wait round for Microsoft to create all the content to get us to the same level as FSX. I very much doubt they are putting everything back in, that they took out, and instead will concentrate on what they think their target market (not us) will like. Caribbean next perhaps?Of course I prefer to fly out of high quality airports from Orbx and other 3rd party developers and we all know that's not an option for MS Flight.I also like to fly really good quality planes and again that is also not an option as Microsoft have locked out the best developers - PMDG etc. I really doubt that MS have the skills needed to compete in the area of aircraft. The other thing preventing MS Flight from being the flight simulator of the future for me is MS taking out all the other essential simulator features - ATC, AI Traffic, Real World Weather, etc. I strongly suspect that one of the reasons they were taken out, apart from wanting to make it easier for their target market was to improve the performance in the game. If MS put those features back my personal opinion is that we wouldn't be seeing the performance increase which is currently being seen.So whilst I might try out the demo, if after a week of it's release I hear a lot of positive comments from this forum, I have already decided that I will not purchase any add-ons for it. I won't even sign up to MS Live to get that "extra plane". Also, I've decided that Windows 7 (which I'm running) is going to be my last purchase from Microsoft.So... for me, MS Flight isn't the thing to watch out for, it's more a minor amusing curiosity on the side.I do hope, however, that the people who are interested in it aren't too disappointed.

I'm so glad for you. It's always nice to have some satisfied customers around here :(

I think it's called plausible airports.....

Seeing what you don't like about MS Flight, you'd better scrap Aerofly FS out of your list: right now it's even less of a sim then MS Flight! The only pro it has compared to MS Flight is the larger region, but that's it. I am sure it's a fun game but after posting what you just did I think it will be impossible to find enjoyment in Aerofly FS.

Most of airport buildings in FSX are pretty random random too... Only some biggest airports really have special ones that look something like real thing.
If you can run FSX well then you can run X plane 10 very well, and it runs better although its still not completely patched and so... FSX is way more heavy on system than X plane 10.I believe that X plane 10 is the future after FSX. Prepar3d does not look like its going to be made for non commercial/training customers, and so far Flight seems to be missing key elements of simulation.Aerofly looks good indeed, if they ever make whole Earth for it then I might buy it.Well nothing prevents creation of that kind of addon for X plane. FSX default world does not look very interesting either, thats why I use tileproxy with FSX.
The beta just started, how do you know if it will be missing any key elements of simulation, its just too early to tell.

Yes, I suppose that's true... :(

Indeed. To take it even further: it has been confirmed the key elements to MAKE it a simulation are there in MS Flight.

What key elements are these exactly?Downloadable real-time weather?ATC?AI traffic?Twin-engine planes?Jets?Failure simulation?Advanced systems?Realism settings?

Right, they have ripped out most of what would be needed to make a serious sim, I don't see how they could redeem it even if they wanted to.

Is it released and can be purchased, hmm i didnt know that. Or maybe you have some inside information that is being held a secret for the rest of us.

Jeroen, you're right, although after watching some of the videos of AeroflyFS, to me it certainly looks more fun and promising than MS Flight even if it doesn't quite match the items in my posting :(. I certainly think it's a Flight Simulation to keep an eye on.

It is no secret that there is no evidence of these features in the beta. You can verify this for yourself. The poster I replied to claimed that there is evidence that we have all elements for a simulation. Now you jump into this, so what secret information do YOU have that these features are in the final product.I have plenty of evidence that the lack of information on certain features from MS means the lack of these features. What do you have?

They can always add features and sell them. I think that is the idea. Modular add on's. If they have add on's that create excellent realism, excellent scenery, excellent aircraft, some appeasement may be had with the hardcore element. Like to know what they have in their grab bag in the on line store when released. We will know soon enough.
