I plan to upgrade to Flight in 2015? What about you?

Lets see. Age of Empires is going strong with TWO squals and an online game. Vista sold a LOT of copy's. It was panned as a "failure" but it still sold.Zune is going strong. My wife LOVES her Zune HD, Zune is in XB360, and Zune is a key part of Windows Phone 7. Windows Me was total junk. 1 out of 4 aint bad.

Do any of you honestly find it challenging to fly the C172 in FSX?
I find it more difficult than in real life to be honest. Its not just the flight dynamics, but the controls and interface that can make using the simulator more challenging than it needs to be. I suspect some of these issues might be addressed in Flight to appeal to the wider audiences that Microsoft is targeting. Perhaps the mouse will become a viable way to fly if you don't have a joystick (it certainly isn't in FSX). Much of the interface might be stripped away as well or replaced with on screen overlays inside the game.

For $70 to $15 (just throwing out random numbers here), why wouldn't I get Flight AND keep FSX with all my Add-ons? I know, at the minimum, I'll be able to tool around Hawaii in a Stearman with some pretty sweet graphics. That alone is going to be worth it for me. If that's not good enough for you, sure stick with FSX. If this is indeed going to be FS11 (which doesn't sound likely), then I still don't really see the point in waiting as the money and hard drive space requirements are pretty trivial for most of us. Continue to use FSX with your addons, and have fun with Flight's gaming aspects until addons do come out for it.As a huge flight simulator fan, I'd love to see Flight released as FS11. The rhetoric from the press releases leads me to believe otherwise, however. I think many of you are assuming Flight is going to be FS11 and might be a little disappointed at some of the aspects as they are revealed. It might be something as trivial as the loss of autogen animals (would you miss them?) or it might be something significant like an extremely limited base scenery and aircraft collection. The name change and acknowledgement of the target audience switch, suggest changes that might not be in the best of interests of the die hard Flight simulator cult following. An incremental upgrade that has all of our hopes and dreams is probably not something Microsoft is interested in investing the time and money into, as we are a small, niche group compared to the gaming industry as a whole. If Flight is significantly restricted in terms of its feature set compared to FSX, I think you'll also see the price adjusted to reflect that. Hawaii only with a few single engine pistons? That might run you $12 as a download through your Live account. Its not FS11, but I don't mind dropping a few dollars to play around with some eye candy. Additional aircraft and scenery areas might be a few more dollars online. Again, I don't mind spending a few dollars for those aircraft and scenery experiences, especially since I already pay for addons to flight simulator. I don't think you're going to see a Hawaii based game with the option to later add North America, unless that North America addon is priced significantly higher than Flight was to begin with. There is just an incredibly larger amount of land to cover between those two areas. A more equivalently sized area might be a Seattle/Vancouver/Mt. Ranier sized addon, Anchorage/Denali, or perhaps whole experience orientated addons like specific airshows or disaster areas with their own aircraft. Its exciting to look forward to Flight, and reassuring to know that I'll still get a lot of use out of FSX. I can't wait to cruise the islands in an open cockpit. Anything extra is just going to be a bonus.

Absolutely, if it's well optimized (answering O.P.)

If one ignores the lack of undercarriage, it's actually quite a nice landing.

I plan to purchase Flight as soon as it is released. I will add it to my stable of flight simulators. I currently have FSX, X-Plane 9.7 and the X-Plane 10 demo installed on multiple SSDs and harddrives. Most of my time is spent with FSX and a large collection of addons. From time to time I even consider reinstalling FS9 and some of the addons unique to it such as Emma Field. So much flying to do, so little time.

We intend to release more products in 2012 than we did in 2011 for both FSX and P3D. FSX remains our core platform and will do so for many years to come.
A very interesting comment from John Venema at ORBx.

Yeah, i noticed that. He backed fsx, and also mentioned today that prepar3d v2 was going to be awesome. Not sensing any livenfor flight from those who should know.

Since no one actually "knows" anything, there really isn't much that can be said! When MS releases an SDK for "Flight" I for one will be all over it like stink on a skunk! LOL.gif

How many of you are intending on upgrading immediately?
While chasing the latest helps when we're bored, I still have so much fun w/ FSX that I am no hurry to move along. Tons of add ons that I work well and I can debug them when needed. The sim runs fairly well on my aging platform which I will upgrade MAYBE when IB comes. If it becomes apparent that Flight will run EXCELLENTLY on a new IB based platform, I may go for it if reviews are glowing on several fronts. FSX has matured so much w/ such a diverse set of aircraft/scenery/utilities/etc I just really am in no hurry to lose all of that and effectively start all over. If the developer kept w/ the same model of building a base platform for years of 3rd party development it should be just coming into its own in 2-3y. So, we'll see. Thanks in advance to all of the early adopters ;o)Noel

Im sure ill buy flight, but agree fsx is just moving into its prime. IB should get it running to my satisfaction (im picky, im not quite happy with how it runs on my current system yet).

I think we should let the creators of FLIGHT know that we want our fsx addons to be compatible by the use of a patch or update like how fs9 addons could be ported to fsx for example wilco 737. If that happened every fsx player would buy a copy

MS is not an happy community, it is a money machine a it couldn't care less about customers wishes.Second, they are planning to sell expensive expansion packs via the Live market therefore all the past must be disallowed to interact with the future, due to obvious money reasons. It's sad I know that but that's how MS is used to deal.

You really think that MS don't know that, now what about the payware developers, do you really think they will go for a deal like that when they could have sell addons for FSX and addons for Flight at the same time, would you pay again to have the same addons tweaked for Flight, look at what's happening right now, you have to pay to use the same addons from Orbx or REX with PreparD3 or Aerosoft addons with XP-10, so do you really think your FSX addons will go hand to hand with Flight just like that....seriously....if you ask me I don't want the same FSX addons for Flight, so lets buy new addons for Flight.

I said it from day one when MS revealed Flight, Flight will not be business as usual. (I also said that Flight was FSX SP3.... :( ) Hawwwww! come on Brandon, even you can see it now..... :(
