Black/disappearing textures? Some bizarre news ...

Featured Replies

the sim runs better when I set buferpools to 0, but I still experience the loss of the outter airplane textures. The virtual cockpit textures stayed intact so I was able to complete the flight. still get black screens if I go into the menus. I wish there was an easy fix for this, I took a few months off and unless I can solve the problem in the next few days looks like I will go back to taking a break from FSX

Bufferpools set to zero is the equivalent of not having the entry in the config file in the first place. FSX will use the default bufferpool value if you set it to zero which is 1MB pre SP2 and 4MB for SP2.

I don't know why but with bufferpools set to 0 I get an extra 17fps....making Aerosoft Madrid and Heathrow very usable at 30 - 35 fps.......I'm not going to change it back in a hurry. :)

Well I have bufferpools to 300000 and that seems to be a lot better. I accidentally left my computer on all night. It was sitting at fsdreamteams KORD with Active Sky Advanced weather running. This morning I looked at it and it was running fine, a little fps slowdown but no missing textures. Granted I never got up in the air but staying in the virtual cockpit for hours and hours on the ground must have put some stress test on it. Tonight I will do a flight

I am curious why settings are 80KBs: 80000, 60KBs: 60000......if you calculate it properly then 80KB=81920 and 60KBs=61440 . Why are the numbers simplified? If bufferpools 0 = default, in my case 4mb (sp2) then that should be 4194304 not say 4000000 - we all know how fickle FSX is and to get this wrong could cause issues.

The above poster has a great idea. I did a kilobytes to byte conversion. I wanted 200KB (KiloBytes) of bufferpools so that was 204800 bytes. I entered this in and I have not seen any problems just like before, but this may work for others where even with 200 and 300 they were having problems.Try entering this:[bUFFERPOOLS]Poolsize=204800John U.

We might have a winner here. I gave this a whirl on the test flight PMDG MD11 FSDT FLL --> MIA UTX2 at dusk and noticed no corruption in either texture or black / white screen. I need to test this out on an RJAA --> US mainland flight to be sure, but so far good results. Thank you for your help.

Guys sorry to say - just tested with PMDG 747-400 at EDDF (Aerosoft scenery) at dusk. After a few Alt+Ent - first the buildings disappeared, than I continued trying and was the plane's outer skin turn. I did not stop there and after another Alt-Ent try the BSOD came... Conclusion - the system was more stable but eventually after persisting with the menus and the Alt+Ent the graphic corruption comes at the house..

Didn't work for me. I wonder whether the nHancer should be removed from my system.Anyway, now I am downloading the latest nVidia drivers (196.21) and I will give it a go on the default GPU settings

LOL... he has got a point, 15 pages and counting... going round in circles springs to mind.Bryan.

Here are my last results -TEST SETTINGS:* [bUFFERPOOLS] Poolsize=204800* Latest nVidia Driver = 196.21* no nHancer - default graphic card settings* Antialiasting and Antisotrophic filtering set by FSX* sound settings - lowest possible for my Creative xFi - 16 bit 44100 CD quality* PMDG 747 + EDDF (Aerosoft)+ASA+MyTraffic 2010 (50%)TEST RESULT:On ground in EDDF graphics stable and couple of Alt-Ent did not corrupted the picture...After take off, (few hours later) on route, going in the FSX menus (load flight) brought me directly to the "Black Screen Of Death" without corruptions before that.CONCLUSION:Might be the right track but we are still not there..............
