I'm Happy For The Rest of You

Yes, I'm one of the lepers who tried to run RC3 on an old Win98 machine with a Soundblaster SBPCI128 card. As a stamped-on-the-forehead-with-the-number-of-The-Beast Non-techie, I was doomed from the start. All I can say is, BOY, do I miss Pro Pilot 98/2000.Despite some some polite - but perfunctory - help from the good folks who built RC3, I can only use it if I hit Q and silence the rest of FS2002.One guy, who was really trying to help and I'm not picking on, suggested I download the very latest driver for my sound card. This ended up hammering the default ATC files (and *only* my default ATC files) for FS2k2 so now I have a Hobson's choice: either fly with default ATC and text-only ATC, or fly with RC3 and no other sound.I've chosen the latter, but as I said: Boy do I miss Pro Pilot 98/2002. Remember Amercian ATC voices when you're in America, European voices in Europe and Asian voices in Asia? (I got a German female pilot call in from Alaska Airlines the other day - I loved that). How about being given clearances lower than from FL100 to FL90 within 19 miles of the airport? Remember being able to set your distance from the FAF rather than be put on 30 mile downwind legs?I'm in this twilight zone with no money for a new machine, RC3 at half capability, calculating how much less the PSS, Flight One, and other software I bought cost, yet worked perfectly, and I'm reading effusive praise from others about how much they love RC3, and see many notes about how the beta testers had no problem. Thanks for letting me vent. Merry Christmas/Happy Chanukka, and to all a good flight. I feel better.Ian:)

Ian,"ditto" on the "Q" key method of getting RCV3 sound and the absence of FS audio. Same thing happens on my system (Win98, HP Pavillion, Rip Tide sound card, no addons). I downloaded all the latest files including the new 2.95 FSUIP and still having the sound issue to deal with. After Christmas I will check to see what I have left in the old account and look for a new sound card. If that works I will shoot a message to the forum.Have a good one.

someone wrote me yesterday. had a soundblaster pci 16 card. i didn't give him much chance of all getting it to work.he said he downloaded the latest drivers, and now it works great.the secret is in the drivers, i think

From the For-what-it's-worth dept, I'm using a SB PCI512 card that was pretty reasonable. It isn't near the current state of the art and my machine is a 450 PII. While things work I really can't expect the industry to stay compatable with this technology. I'm just happy is has this long. What I can say unequivocally is that I have never missed ProFlight. But I wanted ATC. Cheers, Jimhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCbeta.jpg

Technology is what Technology is! Yah never know these days what will work and what won't with all the variations out there with system components, drivers, and software. Throw on top of that, the Version of Windows you are running and everything else.My COMPLIMENTS go to the people (like the folks at JD's place) that develope these packages and the time spent in doing that. It takes a lot, been there. You can only test before release on so many configurations and there will always be some users that are going to have problems with it. New software connot encompass ALL variations of systems out there!Your comment on drivers was exactly what I tried when I ran into the problem. I went to the HP WEB site and the only RipTide driver updates they had were for newer cards and mine did not even have an "honorable mention". I also searched the NET for other sources and came up "empty handed". Later this week I am going to go and buy a new sound card. Probably one of the new soundblaster Live 5.1 ones. Read a lot of good things about it and it will probably cure a lot of other problems I am having with sound. I am a long way from asking for a refund guys! This is great stuff and cannot fly without it! Been a user for years and LOVE my First Officers voice. I WILL find a solution here, guaranteed! It will be an obsession. Persistance pays off! Thanks to all at RC.

Don,If you can wait until at least Jan 1, the prices on components (and full systems for that matter) will drop precipitously.

somehow it posted twice

Didn't want to ignore you.....so, Merry Christmas!Rob
