First flight with RC out of a non-terminal airport...

Featured Replies

Had never tried it before and of course not RTFM, so when i had received the weather report and the freq., i chose that freq. when still on the ground. ******* - how i got lectured for not keeping my assigned altitude... LOL Now it wasn't neither a helicopter nor an UFO, so i couldn't get up that quick. Then when i finally was airborne i turned the plane towards the first waypoint, activated the autopilot and handed it over to Jamie, as i wanted to enjoy the view. That i should never have done. Don't know what happened with her, but she started to turn the plane back towards where i came from. I rapidly took over control and got it back on track - just to be lectured that i was drifting off course. :-lol Well - i took the chance and handed it over to her again and she did what she was supposed to for the rest of the flight.Arriving at East London, SA it was quite windy, so it was bumpy landing in the Cessna Caravan, but i stayed on the runway - at least from what i could see out of the window. However - Jamie got lectured about having chosen another freq. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it seemed she had made the change to quickly.Maybe that party last night was a little rough on her?? :-lol

a couple of ideas. at a non terminal airport, you have the choice of getting your clearance on the ground or in the air. i'm guessing you chose to get your clearance in the air?did you have to announce what runway you were taxiing to? did you have to announce what runway you were taking off, and direction of departure?then you should contact center for your clearance. he's assuming you are in the air!i don't think we tested getting clearance in the air, while on the ground. our bad ;-)that probably balled up the co-pilot.on the landing, jamie shouldn't contact ground until you are clear of the active. i'm assuming you landed on the runway you were assigned?read the manual, especially the tutorials on non terminal departures, and co-pilot in charge of the comms and plane. then try the flight again, and report back.

I don't know if i'm right, but reading your answer gives me the feeling you think i'm talking about v. 3??? It's vers. 2.2 - i'm still waiting desperately for the new one.. ;-)It was from a small airstrip (only grass), that i departed. At first you dial up to get the weather report and in the end of that report, a frequency is mentioned.I did land on the assigned runway, but maybe i got to close to the grass, so someone thought i had left the runway? :-)Maybe i should have stated that i was talking about v. 2.2., but since v.3 isn't out yet, then it didn't struck my mind...
