January 11Jan 11 Today, I was looking for something different and heavy...🙂...to fly. This C-17 Globemaster III (for MSFS2024) caught my attention, available for daily rental, in the Marketplace. So, I took it out for a short round-trip flight, departing from Geneva (LSGG) airport, in the southeasterly direction, for about 50-60 miles to the top of Mont Blanc Mountain in the French Alps. The mountain sits directly on the border between France and Italy, with the summit located in French territory. At 15,772 ft elevation, its stunning (snow-laden) peak is the highest in Europe outside the Caucasus Mountains (see my overfly of it in shot #s 10-11, below). I lift off Runway 22 of Geneva (LSGG) airport, and, after completing my tour, I land back again on the same Runway 22 (see MSFS EFB Route Map in one of the shots below). This (LSGG) ILS Runway (prior designation "05/23"), you might recall, for most part of our earlier SIMs, had a frequency of 109.90, which has been changed to 108.70 (with new runway designation "04/22"), since several years, just in time for MSFS2020. Here, in this C-17, setting the [DEP/ARR] page of the FMS, for ILS 22 Approach, automatically (and nicely) tuned the Localizer to the correct (new) NAV1 frequency; see shot #2 for the Radio Panel on the Glareshield. It was good fun (and felt different) to fly this heavy-lifter airplane today, powered by four Pratt & Whitney F117-PW-100 turbofan engines, which are military versions of the commercial PW2000 series engines used on the Boeing 757. From lift-off to touchdown, the airplane flew well culminating in a smooth landing into Geneva airport, as it made the final approach via ILS Runway 22 (IF) Fix (SAPRE) over and across Lake Geneva, from the northeastern corner of the picturesque lake. Hope you enjoy this collection of images of this (massive) cargo and troop transport aircraft (one of the largest in the world), flying here, at the command of yours truly...🙂...up and around the Alps mountains... Thanks for viewing...!
January 11Jan 11 Great spur-of-the-moment excursion. Massive aircraft...presume it felt rock-solid on your flight. Edited January 11Jan 11 by John F

Indeed, it was kind of a spur-of-the-moment impulse to fly this one today…🙂…You might recall there was a decent C-17 in our FSX era… And, yes, it is a massive aircraft…nearly 4 times the Maximum Take-off Weight of the (legendary) Hercules Turboprop, but this one is jet powered to perform aggressive takeoffs and landings, on short runways…

Yes, I believe you’re right, Andreas. Boeing stopped production about 10 years ago, but hundreds are still flying around in service…such as including Canada, UK, and Australia… This one is a factory prime color, but I did see Canadian Reg. repaints in the default livery pack… Edited January 13Jan 13 by P_7878
