Disappearing live traffic

Featured Replies

My live aircraft are disappearing whilst waiting for takeoff after about a minute or so. Sometimes they reappear on the runway but other times I don’t see them again. Am I doing something wrong?

Nothing wrong. It's wonky RealTraffic data. There's likely spotty ADS-B coverage in that area.

Brilliant, thanks for the quick response.

Would be nice if some known areas good be defined (e.g. the taxiways leading to the runways of EGLL) where traffic is usually dissapperaing after some time waiting in the queue and reappearing when they start taxi again. In these areas one could just prevent them from dissappearing. This would increase the immersion factor significantly for me.

There are a few problems with that idea.

The dis- and reappearing is caused  a "hole" in the RT traffic data for that aircraft. However, that hole can appear anytime, not when standing still only.

Aircraft may also reappear at a different location then where they disappeared. So holding an aircraft at taxiway may end up in following aircraft driving through it.

Note that PSXT, when a hole appears, already waits a number of seconds before removing the plane.

The other, even bigger, problem is that PSXT has no notion of taxiways and runways. Aircraft do not follow taxiway codes, but are simply placed at their real live latitude/longitude locations from the RT traffic stream....

I understand that the generality of the approach is low and that PSXT does not know taxiway and runway data.

However, there are some spots at airports well covered by RT where these wholes only happen while the aircraft are waiting to continue their taxi (such as at EGLL, the spots are even marked in the navigraph charts as runway holding area).

A bounding box or polygon could be defined there and PSXT could check if the lost RT data is within that area and prevent the aircraft from disappearing or just use a munch longer timeout time.

Just wanted to elaborate that idea. Anyway, thank you for the great software.

Who defines these boxes? To do that for all say 500 airports that have a good Qreal (such as EGLL) will be a lot of work.

But even for these runway holdings it can appear that the next position, after a hole, is half way the runway or in the air...

You must know that I am now (further) developing this program for almost 10 years. I have tried a lot already

It would be a lot easier and better if we all want to pay more for Real Traffic data so Balthasar could contract better data providers...

So just to confirm…my ground holding aircraft for 26L at Gatwick all disappear after a certain period of time but they don’t up the other end at 08R, that’s a ADS coverage problem, correct?

Correct.

would that be whats causing planes to disappear on final then reappear on the runway for rollout ?

At some airporst with not very good ads-b coverage, yes. There are also lots of airports where they do not disappear on final.
