Douglas DC-3 and C-47s for X-Plane 12...

Jcomm - This is where XP becomes interesting for its realistic flight dynamics and limits. There is no stall warning fitted to the DC-3 so you had to rely on the usual clues, slow and reducing airspeed, nose attitude, sloppy controls and buffet onset before the stall - I cannot replicate nor do I have a reliable experience of buffet in the sim. This makes it tricky! Then I referenced old notes and some DC-3 master airman. The consensus is that in clean configuration the aircraft behaved like any other aircraft bit of wallow and easy to recover. Dirty configuration, gear down flap down and power on )about 75%)- look out the aircraft will pitch up violently and roll inverted rapidly you can expect to lose a minimum of 1000 ft while this happens. Spinning was not on the agenda by the way but if you did then normal recover technique should work (providing you have the altitude) oh misuse of aileron will give you even more dramatic results to the worse. VMCA was 78 knots. An inverted spin is a bad place to be and may not be recoverable as you now need to push instead of pull and roll the opposite direction to what you think! That takes considerable presence of mind and attention to achieve. A stalled inverted DC-3 probably needs about 10000 ft to recover! The overall view or data is that it is the wing being swept that generates this stall spin behaviour and that the floaty rudder was a nuisance.

Looks like from the Youtube video that sudden shift rearwards did it pitching up the aircraft now was it the parachute jumpers who caused that with a mass not orderly exit like they did? rapidly changing the CoG. The video does show the rotation was stopped and I cannot see why recovery would not have been achieved after that!

Good to get into the weeds on stuff like this for those interested - makes flight simmming a great deal of fun and interest!

Having something that just came up. Doing a 6 hr flight in a LES DC-3 right now. Full main tanks, flying on auxiliary (they are about half full). I am in cruise at FL100. For some reason, the right tank fuel pressure is fluctuating between 7 and 8 while the left is stable at 14.5. If I turn on the Boost Pump, it stabilizes at 15 or so, slightly above the other one. RM and MP are stable and in cruise setting. Any ideas on what could be causing that?

If it's a steady minor vibration, that's the unreliability of the mechanical fuel pumps.

It is... but it's a fairly drastic difference between the 14.5 and 6-8 between the two pumps, no? Also, THANK you for this bird. Really a pleasure to fly. It took me a while to "get it", but this is now my favourite DC-3 simulation. Wonderful job. I hope you guys will continue to support and update it as needed.

Also, the light for the RH fuel pressure is illuminated above the gauge. Is it OK to cruise with a boost pump on? That cures the issue.

I'll ask Ilias and see if he did some kind of customization to it.  I'm juggling a few projects at once here, so it's a little challenging to keep up with who did what.

Actually, @Airfighter, want to chime in here?  You're the brains behind this one.  🙂

You're welcome.  Kind of ironic, seeing as this was meant to be a small side project for XP9, that was meant to fill up some time while the Saab was getting worked on.  I never thought it would get the traction that it did. There will be some updates coming in the future.

IIRC, boost pumps are only meant for take offs and landings.  Been a while since I flew anything, but it was always drilled into my head, do NOT turn on boost pumps when flying.

So, I have been doing a couple of more flights in the DC-3, been actually flying it all day and this problem has not manifested since that one flight. Not sure what went wrong on that one, but... I did land it at destination successfully.

Hi GoranM, sorry for going off topic, are there any plans to update the SAAB 340? Thanks!

Not sure if you're the same person I replied to in reddit.  But just in case you're not, I can't say anything more than it's getting looked at.  When I get the ok from Jim (programmer), and he says he can get it all going, then I'll drop it in my work schedule.

I am also curious as I'd love to own that, but not going back to XP11.

No, I´m not, but thanks for the answer. 👍
