February 7, 20242 yr A long while ago, I'd got the MSFS/Asobo ATR Turboprop, but had never got to fly it. So, I took it out today for a first trial...and chose the Caribbean skies over Jamaica for a short trip. Jamaica is an island country, about 150 miles in length and a maximum width of ~50 miles (and as narrow as only 20 miles wide in some parts). So, I could bicycle the width of the country, coast to coast, in a couple of hours...Nice... (or even less time if I get to use my (newly acquired) Electric (exercise-free) Bike ...🙂...10 mph seems too slow on it...). In contrast, I was just recalling one of my posts, here, and the (RW) trip, from Chicago to New Orleans, also widthwise across U.S., directly south, ~1,000 miles, that had taken me ~13.5 hours of single day highway driving...Oh well... I'd previously (virtually) visited the Montego Bay (MKJS) Airport in dusk light, and here, I fly, in mid-day brightness, the smaller of the two (MSFS) ATR siblings (42-600). From personal experience, I've never travelled in an ATR within U.S., but have flown in it several times abroad (quite a popular a/c for regional transport by airlines). I recall these Turboprops being very versatile and nice to travel. On one occasion, I recall the landing been so smooth that I didn't even feel it when the wheels touched down on the runway... (of course, pilotage had also something to do with it). I especially recall that occasion because the cabin crew, during the after touch-down taxi, announced the "wrong" arriving airport...sending a murmur of concern (and shock) through the Cabin...🙂...before the error was promptly corrected... Anyway, for this post, I lift off westward from (MKJS) Runway 25, making a U-turn over the Caribbean Sea, and then heading back eastward across the length of Jamaica via the Kingston VOR (KIN) inserted into the route. The highest point on this island, at 7,400 ft, is the Blue Mountain Peak northeast of Kingston, in the mountain ranges (see shot #s 8/9/10) on the eastern part of the island. So, I've flown, here, mostly in the altitude range 7,000 ft to 10,000 ft, while traversing the island's interior from west to east. I have finally tracked back to Montego Bay...to the glide-slope path of MKJS (ILS) Runway 07 within about 15 miles of the airport and have landed there. Hope you enjoy this collection of images of the ATR in Jamaica....in the colors of my home-based United Airlines ...🙂.... Thanks for viewing...! Edited February 7, 20242 yr by P_7878
