November 30, 20232 yr My objective in this post was two-fold (1) Get more familiar with flying the MSFS/iniBuilds A310-300, please see my earlier A310 posts, if you wish (2) Explore the Mountains of Russia. I could not have imagined attempting the 2nd objective in any of my previous SIMs, but, even the (default) MSFS scenery offering a reasonable approximation of most regions of the world, I thought it was worth an exploration. After all, in our SIM, we often refer to (and feature) the Himalayas, the Andes, the Rockies, and the Alps, but rarely the Mountains of Russia. In my previous post, as I just traversed the plains and flatlands of Russia, in its Western part (the European part, so to speak), from Moscow to St. Petersburg, it's easy to overlook the fact that, the eastern and southern parts of the country (its Asian parts, so to speak) are dominated by mountain ranges. Among these mountains, Mt. Elbrus, at the southern edge, is the highest mountain in all of Russia and Europe. It's nearly 3,000 ft taller than the highest peak of the Alps Range, the famous Mont Blanc. So, here we go, as I lift off from Sochi Airport (URSS), headlong into the Caucasus Mountains (see shots #2/#3), with my aim set on Mt. Elbrus, the dormant volcanic peak, known to be one of the highest stratovolcanoes on Earth. To the south of my flight path, there is the Black Sea (see shots #4/#5), over which I've flown briefly, before heading towards Mt. Elbrus. You can spot Mt. Elbrus in a few of my screenshots below (see the last 3 shots). In my final screenshot, for a thoughtful impression, I leave you (or myself) suspended above this fearsome (snow-capped) Mountain...while seated within the comfort of the A310 (in the MSFS colors) ....🙂... Yes, the Orbx package was an excellent add-on for Antarctica ...On Xbox, for now, I am exploring only the default scenery.... which is more than what I could've hoped for....
