FANTASTIC shader enhancement for water

Featured Replies

I am a little confused. What is the best file for the shader effect to use? It seems that all of the posted files have been deleted. Can someone please post the latest best file to use that doesn't have any problems? Thanks!Mike

We need this in the file library, ideally with an installer. ;)Attachments only last a week before they get purged.

Thanks for posting it. I am looking forward to using it.Mike

Hi David,First post in this thread so let me say how much I like your style! Thanks for your keen and generous contributions. I believe I read somewhere that you run a Vista 64, E6850, 8800 nVidia based system with FSX/SP2? If so it matches mine in these key respects, at least. Which leads me to two minor problems you or someone else might be kind enough as to put me straight on.1) the water shader enhancement gives me a pale blue mono-colour ocean at any setting setting. I use the full replacement file and not the script text BTW. Is there a simple explanation I missed? I have looked. 2) DX10 benefits in FSX are not immediately obvious to me but the flickering runway marking textures it seems to produce, are. I have seen this issue mentioned elsewhere and my current take seems to be (a) "its not 3rd-party software related", and (:( to be patient and "wait for better DX10 drivers". Is that about the state of it? Best regardsGARETHex-pat Brit in SpainPS My chipset is P35

Hi Gareth,Thanks a lot for your kind words :--)Yes, we do have the same config.1) I haven't notice the same mono-colour water texture you are describing but I am using FEX that changes water colours and waves animations so I can't really tell you who it works without FEX. There are 2 different files available for FSX/SP2, both give very nice results. You'll find them attached to this message. (just rename them Water20.fxh) Maybe one of them will help you fix this issue. (make a backup of your TERRAIN folder before deleting its content, it's safer).2) Honestly, I only use DX10 for short VFR flights because I like the wave animation with wind and the water effects rendered by DX10.But most of the time I use DX9 because it is more stable on my PC and no hassles with runways shimmering, bad aircraft lights, too bright bloom effect etc... despite I get higher fps with DX10.But with the hardware we use I also get satisfactoty results with DX9 with most of the graphic options at their maximum. So you are right, the advantage to use DX10 Preview is not really obvious for high-end machines that can deal with bloom effect and high settings.Nvidia drivers seem to be responsible of most of the problems with DX10 but there is not too much to wait from new ones IMO. Maybe next generation of graphic cards will fix the problem, who knows? In the meantime I don't care that much and try to enjoy FSX as it is :--)Best regards,David

Hi David,Just returned from a spell away and found your friendly and mercifully lucid reply to my concerns. Ta, a much appreciated reality check :-) Thanks too for the two file attachments. I'm about to try these and will post back. (BTW - I opened them, pasted them into Word and saved them as .txt files ... but have a feeling there was a smarter way??) I share your sentiments, likewise enjoying FSX in glorious DX9 'as is'. If we're honest the current iteration of FS is a brilliant achievement. More even ... the fact that a serendipitous combination of light, weather, aspect, time, location, and whatever else can produce unfolding visual tapestries on our screens that are able to touch the emotions is an extraordinary and pretty audacious thing for a whole lot of 0's and 1's to be doing ... right? Best,Gareth

Very well said Gareth. 0's and 1's are at the root of the magic feeling. FSX, though not perfect, is a beautiful piece of software. No, there wasn't no smarter way to use the files. Maybe not using Word but Notepad :--)Best regards,

Thanks Nick and nice shot!Like someone else said in one of all these threads, looking at all beautiful screenshots I realize I must start do more flying and less reading/tweaking ;)

Hi DavidCan you make these 2 files available again ?ThanksPaulo

Paulo,In a short while we will be releasing FS Water Configurator (FSWC). This will feature the shader enhancements and a user friendly GUI for making all the adjustments to reflection intesities, moon glow, colour intenity etc. all for FREE!! (There maybe one or two extra suprises too!)Our website will be launching soon. Keep an eye on our topic on Simviation.com for all the latest updates. (the shader files are there too if you can't wait)Paul.
