I'd mentioned earlier in my previous post that (only) recently I picked up the (CS) B737-100 Expansion model, the required Base 200 Model, for which, I've owned for more than a decade. Somehow, I had never got to acquire the 737-100 variant, until last week, though I recall been active in the CS Forum, when CS originally released their 737-200 in step-wise iterations. I remember because...there was a bit of clamor about "where is the GPS switch on this aircraft, so that one can navigate with it more easily...🙂...?" and been unceremoniously (but correctly) ...🙂...told to fly the way the a/c was supposed to be flown...with the help of navaid-to-navaid navigation, without GPS, of course...

I've included, below, a close-up shot (3rd shot) of its MCP and Autopilot. "This was the original MCP as fitted to the -100/-200's with the Sperry SP-77 autopilot. They comprised three panels, the autopilot (center) and one for each flight director (sides).... HDG SEL and VOR/LOC could be coupled to the autopilot but would only be driven by the heading bug set on the Captains compass and the course set on the Captains HSI (i.e., no HDG/CRS windows)."

The CS 737-100/200 SIM remains a "CS" classic of a classic plane...and has been one of the most enjoyable SIM renditions (cockpit and textures) of this remarkable plane...a (RW) plane that had started it all for the Boeing 737 Series...back in the 1960s...and from which all other 737s are evolved...to this current day. Upstart 737 broke away from the tradition of (multiple and contemporary) aft-mounted twinjets, that were already in certification, thanks to Joe Sutter, who would be later known as the Father of the 747 (747 would fly just 2 years later) ...The 737-100s were rare to start with (also rarely seen around, here...), since only 30 were manufactured. In comparison, over 1,100 737-200s were produced and delivered. Out of the 30 737-100s, 22 were delivered to Lufthansa alone. 5 went to Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (precursor of today's Singapore Airlines), 2 went to Avianca, and the very first one had gone to NASA. Lufthansa started service, with it, on February 10, 1968, and, thereby, quite remarkably, became the first non-American airline to launch a new Boeing aircraft...and a most significant one, too...! No U.S. (commercial) operator ordered the 737-100 (UA launched with 737-200), but eventually, though, many 737-100 examples ended up with U.S. operators.

Below, please find, two images, first, of a B737-100 in the Lufthansa color. This 737-100 (D-ABEC) had construction no. "19015/4" i.e., only the 4th 737 built (and 3rd 737 for any commercial operator; their sequentially registered (LH) D-ABEA and (LH) D-ABEB were the first two 737 examples). As of November 2021, the total (delivery) tally for the entire B737 family (MAX included) shows up as 10,844.

Today, while perusing for additional 737-100 repaints, another livery appealed to me, in the library. It's for "AIR ALASKA", actually "Wien Air Alaska". The company was famous for being the first airline in Alaska, and one of the first in the United States. Here in this Forum, from time to time, you might have noticed references to (and pictures of) Wien Air Jets...from another member...🙂...because of which this Alaskan livery caught my attention today...On record, Wien Air Alaska, however, never seem to have operated the 737-100 variant. They did operate the 737-200 and were also the launch customer for the 737-200 Combi (Regarding 737-200C, if you wish, please see my earlier post about Alaska Airlines and Milk Run). So, consider the last two (sample) images, below, to be hypothetical representations of how the very first Airline in Alaska would have looked, in the very first 737 model ever produced...!

Thanks much...!! Feeling overwhelmed a bit by the response... (looks like this baby...🙂...tugged at the heartstrings of a few...me included...) ...

And, btw, I'd made a guess, in my notes, above, that I'd acquired the 737-200 (CS) model...more than a decade ago...so, I did a bit looking up just now...

"2011-12-30....737 Captain (737-200) Base Pack [FSX/SE]"...so, that was, yes, exactly 10 years ago plus 5 days...we've been a while around here...🙂...anyway, glad, I finally got the "-100" model, last week, prompted by a CS SALE sign in Bargain Hunter's Shack...better late than never...

I'm with you on the A318...btw, your comment brought back memories of a post, I'd made, here, half-a-year ago or so...I'd written about..."Vueling Airlines A318 over Southern Spain..."...if you wish to look back...you'll see that we share the same "affectionate" sentiments about the A318...most importantly because it looks "stubby"..."stocky"...etc... (See below...clearly, we layman non-pilots...have a bit of artistic freedom in analysis and evaluation of jets...🙂...) ...

Anyway here, below, is a snippet from that post of mine...and, of course, you'll eventually get in MSFS other Airbus SIMs besides the 320... (including 318...and the little more offbeat 300, which is my most favorite...I fly SimCheck 300 even now...) ...

"Years ago, I was flying the Airbus planes (318/319/320/321), mostly from Aerosoft, quite regularly, as often as I would be flying the PMDG/iFly 737NGs...

I like flying the Airbus SIMs...I've recently made several posts about A300/A310 and have periodically (but regularly) enjoyed flying the Simcheck A300B4. And, the Airbus history, itself, is as fascinating, to me, as that of the Boeing...

The commonality of Airbus cockpit, is well-known, starting from A318/A319 (btw, we note, here, that A318 actually flew 7 years after A319) i.e. A318 was a later development of A319. A318/A319 can be likened to (and compared with) the Boeing 737 classic series (300/400/500), the 500, in the series, being the shortest. The 737-500 is 101 ft long, and the 318 is at 103 ft. I am especially fond of the stocky and stout...🙂...looking 737 (the 500), and, likewise, the stocky looking Airbus (the 318) ..."

yep, not been around the screenshots forum for a while. I've gotten myself a big HDR monitor and it makes screenshots unfeasible (or at least as far as I can tell). Great for flying with, but HDR screenies are huge and don't look good on a normal SDR monitor, and they don't really convert well. So I don't visit here much now cos I get envious of being able to post!

But I'm getting used to the idea now, so maybe I'll visit more again. Always enjoyed your postings - keep 'em coming!
