issues getting VR running right

Hi, I am experimenting with VR in the sim, and having some issues getting decent performance, which I should noyt be, given my hardware ( see signature) I have followed some youtube guides and am fairly savvy in setting up VR, having been through a world of pain getting it running right in DCS!........All the forums ect say that VR is MSFS is actually OK, but I am yet to find that sweet spot.

I started off using my Vive pro 2 but gave up as nothing I could do made it run any better than around 13 FPS.......So i swapped in my G2 and its better, but still......

After following this you tube guide I tried VR, but it still pretty slow, especially out the side windows.....so I changed the render scale to 60 from 80 and teh terrain detail slider down to 100

I started up the sim in normal mode and then when in flight switched to VR....it was great, really smooth and still looked fine. it was the same flight I had been using for testing  but then after about 5 minutes, it suddenly stopped performing well and reverted back to previous bad performance.....without me douing anything......

I cant figure out what may be going on. Is there anyone with a similar spec PC and G2 who can advise on ALL settings, from nvidiua control panel to steam VR and in the sim. I was not expecting this degree of difficulty in getiing decent performance from my hardware, the web is full of people on lesser rigs getting perfectly acceptable frame rates and graphics.....!! Very frustrating!

Thanks in advance!
