Acrophobia in VR ? Climb the Eifel Tower in 1-to-1 scale

Featured Replies

1. Disable crashing in Options -> Assistance
2. Start the Icon A5 somewhere in the vicinity of Paris
3. Drive the A5 like a car with moderate speed into the city centre or land it in the park in front of the tower
4. Park the A5 under the tower
5. Use the up/down/left/right/forward/ backward keys to navigate in 3D space and to slowly 'climb' the tower

Wow, what a sim this is!

Similar experience.  I retraced Alex Honnold's "Free Solo" path up El Capitan using my Yosemite mod ... in VR.  I have a flight saved with my plane parked in the Valley below and used the showcase camera and an Xbox controller to 'do the climb'.

Holy cow!  You get to experience the vertigo and scale of the cliff face as if you are actually there... which makes me feel even stronger that that guy is insane 🙂

Anyone who wants to try it:

Here is a link to the mod:

Here is the path Alex took:

In summary.  I LOVE VR!  and I LOVE THIS SIM!

I don't have VR and won't be able to afford it for some time so could someone post videos of how you see either location as it sounds as if it looks amazing.

I'll just have to try it using my TrackIR but it isn't going to be the same!

I saw the documentary on Alex climb- insane!!

unfortunately it is not possible to show.

imagine watching a movie on a 3D tv set but instead of looking at the screen you jump inside the tv so you can see all around you in 3D in each direction. So, when you're standing in front of the nose of a 747 you have to look at the ceiling of your room to see the cockpit.

As for the affordability of VR i will say this. Do not be discouraged by the expensive hardware some people thrive by. My PC is 10 years old with an unsupported 5 year old graphics card (gtx 780) for VR (both by Oculus and FS2020) and yet, it works fine with some sacrifices to make in the rendering settings. So it all depends on what you want out of it.

As for the headset. I think multiple monitors + TrackIR is more expensive
