There are actually a bunch of hidden voices in Windows 10 and some if not all can be enabled for use in VOXATC. here's a complete list of all voices that I have found:

The first two are male adult voices (David is the default) and the next group are adult female voices. The ones that I have marked with an asterisk either are default Windows 10 voices or I have tried to enable them and they work with VOXATC. Other than those, the others might show up in non-US versions of Windows 10. I'm especially curious about the two voices marked "Canada" as someone here on AVSim may have access to those folders in their Windows 10 installation.

 

WARNING!!! Enabling these voices is not for the faint of heart. They require editing the Windows registry, so if you are not comfortable doing that, don't even start. And don't blame me if you do something and you mess up your Windows 10 installation.

To experiment with other voices, one must edit the above .reg file and change all the name entries. In addition, one must then edit all those locations in the Windows registry that are referenced for that new name, since the VoicePath variable is entered as hexadecimal in the .reg file and it will always point to the Eva Mobile name. But this just requires that the VoicePath variable points to the correct folder location for that voice. Without that "cleanup" direct editing of the Windows registry, all the new voices will sound like Eva Mobile. In regedit, the VoicePath entry shows up as a string variable and is easy to edit.

 

This approach will also work for any sim app that uses Microsoft voices.

Hi there ... Hacking away at this. Do you have any idea if the CLSID needs to be changed for different voices?

Here's my stab at a reg file that enables the Aussie James voice. I was able to download these voice files by setting Aussie English as a default lang for Windows. 

 

It does not work yet so proceed with caution!

 

So far, I've changed the names and gender.

When I run this I'm able to get James to show up in the list of available voices, but it doesn't work. I'm guessing it's the CLSID but I have no idea what to set that to.

It's not likely to be the CLSID which in my registry is the same for all the Win 10 voices. Do your default voices have the same CLSID? With regedit, check the VoicePath values for each of the the three keys {HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE... etc). It must point to a valid folder/set of voice files, which on my machine for the hidden Mark voice is:

check that  (yours should be en-AU I'm guessing) folder and see what the name of the James entry is and then make sure that all three VoicePath strings for James in the Windows registry point to that folder.

 

All that said, try using the Windows settings and just download the Win 10 Australian language pack and then enable the James voice. That gets you the correct folders installed but no 32 bit support without the registry hacks.

 

EDIT: I just took a chance and added your James registry file to my installation and the VoicePath variable uses ...\en-US\ rather than ...\en-AU\.

Also, make sure that you don't have duplicate declarations for a voice in the same registry key tree.

I've also discovered that it is possible to use Win 10 non-English language voices and force them to speak English, albeit with a kind of strange accent. I'm holding off on explaining this further as it requires more registry editing and I would rather wait to see if there is another beta.

 

Also it is possible to change the transparency of the main and comm VOXATC windows. Further, it is relatively easy to change the taxi guidance lights to blinking so that they show up better at night when there are taxiway centerline lights built into the specific airport file. I believe that this is an alternate solution to deleting the default taxiway lights. This will also have to wait until the status of V7 becomes clearer.
