November 15, 20169 yr Author Dear Skywatcher, dear Wobbie, whatever an "UAC" is, or an "unmentionable", I now went offline and shut down Mr. kaspersky and the fs91upd.exe run without problems. Yet, the result is... ...well... One issue that got fixed by the update was the water-texture not showing correctly in Asia. To make it work the update changed the water texture global not by ex-changing each water-texture-bmp, but by putting a layer of another water texture just a "nano-meter" above the old one. Thus it doesn't matter, what water textures I put in it afterwards, The layer with the updated one still is on top, covering whatever water texture you do install. The FS91-water-texture isn't that bad. It just has the wrong color. The grey-touched turqoise-color might be nice by flying the "côte d'azur", but at the North See, the Atlantik Ocean, or the Mid-Pazific it just "feels" wrong, because it is wrong. (I would upload an image of FS2004v9.0 and one showing the same spot at the same weather in FS2004v9.1, but I have no clue how to get the immages up here.) So, how do I now get rid of that turqoiuse-water-texture layer? (So far I just installed the FS2004v9.0, run it once to get the scenery right, installed the fs91upd and run it once, to get the scenery right.) With very best regards, Stefan p.s.: I wont make it back online before thursday due to some real-life-duties.
November 15, 20169 yr Unmentionable is the FS9.1.exe patch that lets you run the sim without the disk. UAC is User Account Control. Disable UAC on Windows 7Windows 7 makes it much easier to deal with UAC settings, and in fact you don’t have to completely disable UAC if you don’t want to. Just type UAC into the start menu or Control Panel search box. You can simply drag the slider up or down, depending on how often you want to be alerted. If you drag it all the way down to the bottom, you’ll have disabled it entirely. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
November 15, 20169 yr Just on UAC, if you have FS in the default location, very important to turn off UAC. If you don't, you may very well run across multiple problems in the future. Do some googling, masses of info on the net regarding UAC and having old games installed in Program Files on operating systems newer than Windows XP. Mark Daniels
November 17, 20169 yr Author Dear Wobbie, I have the DVD-version of FS2004. This version allready let run the sim without any disk. Dear Skywatcher, your mentioned "If you don't turn off the UAC, you may very well run across multiple problems in the future." ist a very interesting issue. I will follow that in the future. Anyway, FS2004v9.0 now ist upsdated to FS2004v9.1 and there is this water texture issue. I didn't bather about it the years before, yet now would like to get it right from the beginning this time. Any idea, how to correct this, even though it autopmatically came with teh fs91upd.exe? Sincerily, Stefan.
November 17, 20169 yr Ok, so you have FS2004 with the update, & that is FS2004v1 or FS9.1 Water is very difficult to decide on, & is very personal. What you can do is to search in this library for ' water' (there are quite a few add-ons there) Also, have a look at waterzone.zip in the library, also try fs9wat.zip The last one is by Bill Lyons. Search in the library for his stuff. REALLY good! Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
November 18, 20169 yr Author Dear Wobbie, by putting "UAC" into the start menu in a administrator-rights-user-account, you get the UAC to open. After changing it, pressing okay, it doesn't closes. After closing it via red X and opening it again by again typing "UAC" into the start menu, it again is leveled as before, not yet switched of. It seams under Win7 with more than one account (I do always have more than one user accounts at any PC, the one with all administrator-rights and one without all rights), it just isn't possible to switch of the UAC. In the help-menue it even gets to read "with more than one users it is not..." and so on. Thus, how do you switch of the UAC? --- Another issue: I managed to run the fs91upd.exe with UAC runnuing, yet offline and Mr. Kaspersky and WinDefender shut down. Now the water textures became wrong, because this is part of the update, to put a layer on top of the OEM-water-texture, to get it right in Asia. By exchanging the water textures it still gets covered by the layer of the new ones. How to get that back to the OEM-Version? With very best regards, Stefan p.s.: if you tell me how to upload images here, I easily could show, what I'm writing about.
November 18, 20169 yr The UAC control is there to ' protect' you against anything that you should not be doing in the C;\ directory, such as trying to edit config files. All it does is nag! Mine has been switched off for many years now, on both my computers. Any new water effects or textures should overlay whatever is there. Have a look at Aquarama http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=aquarama&CatID=root&Go=Search File Description:Introducing...FS2004 AQUARAMA! (Global Water Textures). A unique new water environment for the entire planet. Breathe life into your rivers, streams, lakes, oceans and all tropical waters. Go yachting over crystal clear lagoons or skim low VFR over deep blue majestic oceans! For the 1st time ever, illustrated manual includes FS2004 Aquarama screenshots compared to ACTUAL freakin` photographs! INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND SOME GREAT PHOTOS AND SCREENSHOTS CAN BE FOUND IN THE 'AQUAMANUAL.doc' MS-word file. Enjoy, Adnan Arif [email protected] or search for aquarama in our library. ALWAYS read the readme. I ALWAYS install into a temporary directory, never directly into the sim. Look & read what is in the folder & you will be able to see what folders will go into the sim. By doing that, you will be able to see what folders in the sim need to be backed up BEFORE copying the folders from the temporary directory into the sim. ALWAYS backup the folders in the sim that will have the new stuff copied into. That should do the trick. Cheers, Robin Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
