Hasn't worked for me. If I fly from London Heathrow (UK2000 scenery) EGLL to Copenhagen (FlyTampa scenery) EKCH in the 777, only a two and a quarter hour flight, I get an OOM when on final approach.

Right, but load up at some airport in the middle of the Sahara in the trike, and then move to the EGLL scenery and watch the VAS climb like Everest.

VAS use isn't necessarily a time-based thing - though it can be - it's a sum of everything. If you're loading a bunch of scenery (airports are usually, understandably, the biggest VAS users), you can have an immediate crash. As we've been stating for quite some time: the 777's use is actually rather small when compared to other add ons. If you get a crash, it's usually time to have a look at your sim sliders.

I read item by item David' s 12 page  and implemented all OOM tweaks and settings. Only two, I didn't completely applied:

1 To Split cockpit screen

2-To Remove 777PMDG from outside view, but instead I did not  open Outside View during the flight remain with VC cockpit view.

I departed from TXKF with available 1,32 GB VAS, Midflight 38000 ft VAS  reduced to 733.8 Mb and During decent available VAS  517.9 Mb  and 17,000 ft 103 m to KEWR  VAS reached to its limit 276.5 Mb and  OOM

happened. :(

Weather at TXKF was perfect VFR. Cruise over Ocean  was perfect VFR. During decent partial clouds coverage and some lightening.

It still uses VAS even if you do not go to an exterior view. Comment out the exterior model per David's guide. It might help some. It's like free VAS if you don't mind flying around in the VC which is where you stayed during the whole flight. I don't care for it. I have no logical explanation but I don't need the VAS. It's probably just my own preference. But if I needed the VAS, I wouldn't hesitate to comment the exterior model out.

I have a new VAS issue. The problem with OOM after programming in the STAR is gone with the new patch, thankfully. BUT the new issue is changing a STAR while en route or on approach, on my computer leads to an OOM a few minutes later before I reach final.

Full names in the PMDG forums please.

Changing STAR while on approach?  That is very confusing, the approach is after the arrival procedure.  Please provide specific information.

This was my  last OOM test flight.

TXKF-KEWR

Weather VFR  DEP/CRZ/DEC

David's all OOM  tweak/settings implemented included PMDG 777 Outside view OFF,  split VC Cockpit screen not implemented.

TXKF P3D started with available  VAS 1.57GB

Taxi  available VAS 1.44GB

T/O 1.04 GB

TOC reduced to 845mb at 380FL

CRZ reduced to 750mb at 380FL

TOD reduced to 740mb at 380FL

Decent started 740mb from 380FL

During decent  reduced to 377MB at 270FL

During decent reduced to 256 MB at 240FL

THEN OOM.

That is my  seven same route test flights. All ended with OOM.

I gave up.  I know, each tweaks/settings can give different results in different PCs. For my PC it didn't work.

I thank to David, for his dedication to support  FS members.

I would encourage you to participate in this thread to help me baseline and collect data across multiple users' sims.

There was never a problem with STARs that I am aware of. Only certain approaches created a VAS leak.

Yes I'm sure you're right Kyle. However, I don't think my scenery settings are too challenging being:-

Level of detail rad - large

Mesh complexity - 75

Mesh res - 5m

Texture res - 60cm

Water - Low 2x

Scenery comp - Very dense

Autogen - dense

Spec effects det - high

My PC details are in my profile. If you think I'm pushing a setting too high please let me know.

I have the AI slider set at 50%. However, from what I've read about AI traffic the slider position is almost meaningless. Most AI aircraft are set in their flight plans to show up with a very low percentage set on the slider. In fact some are set so low that the slider is almost like an on/off switch and graduation is almost impossible. In the FS9 days I used to decompile the flight plans using Lee Swordy's Traffic Tools (which doesn't work with FSX AFAIK) and alter these percentages to get better graduation. I must have had too much time on my hands!

Well, depending on your traffic (default or add-on), and the area of the world, AI Traffic's impact can be significant.

I'd have to compare it against mine, but sometimes, it's just a matter of knocking a slider around a pinch just to see how it handles it.

This was my last OOM test flight.

Maybe you should give up on trying to land at an airport in the New York region. I have never checked VAS usage in the New York area but I know it does have an impact on FPS. Starting with 740MB at T/D you should have no problem landing at any FSX default airport. Except there are three major airports in the New York region and then there is New York/New Jersey itself to consider. Do you have any scenery I addition the default in the region?
