January 5, 200521 yr Is any one flying their Pilatus-PC6-Porter??? Appreciate your evaluation and comments before purchasing. Thanks Chuck
January 5, 200521 yr Really nice airplane not much to complain on.Just beware of the copy protection. It allows for 5 reinstalls if it detects you have any hardware changes in your computer they may invalidate it.So if you happen to upgrade quite frequently or reformat or use dynamic IP:s or whatever it
January 5, 200521 yr She's a beaut. If you do any kind of bush or mountain flying it's a must have. The only downside is that the virtual cockpit is a bit resource hungry and can cause your framerates to drop a little. Not significantly but enough to be noticeable if your framerates are already marginal.
January 5, 200521 yr Yeah she is quite heavy on the framerates if you compare to other bush planes out there. She do look great however. Many run in low quality mode and says it don
January 5, 200521 yr It's my favorite GA plane and probably the best VC I've seen on ANY FS Aircraft. It got me addicted to both GA aircraft and flying using the VC.Will
January 5, 200521 yr I did not get the Porter for quite a while after its release and I was very happy with it when I finally did. It is a great all around aircraft and the VC is excellent. I get better FPS out of the PC6 than many other add on aircraft, but obviously your mileage may vary depending on specs. If you are looking for a go anywhere work horse the PC6 is it. As far as the copy protection issue goes if you do max out your key all you need to do is email FSD. I think all I ever had to do in this situation is provide some basic purchase info to prove I am a legit owner of the aircraft. No big deal and I have done more reinstalls than most.Douglas
January 5, 200521 yr tip: change the textures to DXT3. Saves a ton on performance and looks just as good (well, unless you have a $500 videocard but if you do you shouldn't need to change the textures anyway).
January 5, 200521 yr In the real porter it is possible to brake with the prop still in the air, very handy for steep approaches. Is that possible in the fsd version too? And if yes, how well is the turboprop modelling? The default MS turboprops behave very unrealistic.Wondering,Claudio
January 5, 200521 yr We are actually revising our system quite a bit. A more advanced system which will allow for as much hard drive formatting as you want to do automatically is being created. This is in recognition of the fact that while in most software applications it is not an issue because most people want to reformat their system about as much as they want a tax audit. But in the game/sim hobby peformance becomes huge issue and Windows does not remain stable enough for long periods of time to perform adequately in power-hungry programs like FS 9.Until we get the new system up and running sometime this spring or summer we will not be limiting number of activations when necessary in cases where it seems clear that the hard drive is being reformatted. It may involve more work for us for a time, but this will make everything more convenient and user-friendly for everyone.http://www.fsd-international.com/team/TD_forum_sig.gif
January 5, 200521 yr Claudio,The default turboprop template is terrible. Whatever mass the aircraft has basically skates anywhere. Even when you are idling on the ground. This is something we have managed to deal with. The Porter prop does indeed go into beta in mid flight, and we do manage to bleed off quite a bit of interia. While vastly superior than the MS default, honestly I don't think it is possible to get the full affect of this in FS 2004. We are hoping for some improvement in the next version of the sim.I hope this answers your concerns.http://www.fsd-international.com/team/TD_forum_sig.gif
