default FSX traffic and files?

Featured Replies

My FSX install has become a bit of a botch in ai traffic issues.

From what I know, any files concerned for ai traffic are found in the .flt plan

And the .bgl files in

D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\World\Scenery

How or what files does FSX ONLY need for it to run in default setup with the in game ai Traffic sliders?

Aircraft traffic relies only on the traffic.bgl (if we're talking about default traffic only), the others could be called something like traffic_cars.bgl and traffic_boats.bgl, but I'm really not sure about that at all.

Hmmm..no files exist in my FSX install called just 'traffic.blg".

Wonder if I simply delete all the bgl files if FSX will simply rebuild the new ones necessary?

If you delete all .bgls you will mess up your FSX install. No they will not be re-built. Traffic files do not need the word "traffic" in them.

Most but not all traffic bgl files are placed in FSX\Scenery\World\Scenery

Switch to your FSX main folder and do a search for "traffic", it will scan all sub-folders.

Default name is/was traffic.Aircraft.bgl

Your default traffic file could have been renamed to something like "trafficAircraft.bgl.passive" or "trafficAircraft.bgl.off".

In any case it should have a date somewhere around 31-July-2006, and its size is 22,615 KB (In Acceleration).

If you have an AI traffic Addon be careful

If you find other traffic files (not trafficCarriers.bgl nor trafficBoats.bgl), and you don't want them showing AI traffic just rename them to WhateverTheirName.bgl.OFF

(Make sure you have "Hide Extensions for known file Types” unticked in your folder options -> view tab.)

That is correct, but most addon developers add the "traffic" word to their AI traffic files (bgl) names.

There are some apps that find all traffic files, but I am not on my FSX PC.

Cheers.

Ok, learning, thanks all.

So is 'traffic-GA.bgl' a default FSX file also? It's huge and appears to be causing my issue of GA planes parked at airport gates even though I have the  Option menu GA Traffic slider to 0.

Also, is there a way to switch between having ONLY airliner planes and ONLY GA planes when I fly? I assumed the Option menu traffic sliders were to control this but that does not appear to be the case. Unless my system is messed up some how, of course.

For example, I'm flying USA/Europe now and want only airliners but tomorrow I may want to fly my Air Hauler Alaska GA stuff.

No, I think that file is not a default file. My install doesn't have that file.

Yes the 2 Traffic sliders control this.

Well now to try and figure out what addon installed and maybe needs this 'traffic-GA.bgl' file.  This ought to be fun, not. I'm guessing it something Alaska driven; Tongass Fjords or Orbx perhaps.

If I recall correctly traffic-GA.bgl is created by Marcus Brunners GA traffic program.
