Advice please - Heraklion and Sharm el Sheikh airport sceneries

Featured Replies

I just checked the Heraklion FS9 thread on the Aerosoft forum. Emil, the designer has promised a fix for the FPS problem with the FS9 version. The scenery itself is stunning (FS9 screenies this time) and the price is amazingly reasonable so once the fix is done, I think we will have a major winner with this new scenery. I trust Aerosoft and FSDG completely so I'm going to get the scenery even before the fix to show support for them doing an FS9 version at all...............

Again thanks for the reply Ian. I'll be interested to compare your experience with that of your fellow Kiwi.

I must admit Rainer Duda's screenies looked perfectly acceptable to my eyes but if the thing stutters and suffers from poor frames then I can certainly forego its attractions.

...well in the meantime I have consoled myself by cutting out the military bit of the AFCAD and creating a new airport for my MAIW toys

and dug out something appropriate to visit the east end of the airport with.

The civvies are just background noise to me now!

Well the patch appears promising but inconsistent results lead me to enquire how it has worked for you WingZ

Emil has responded well, and worked hard to make it better.

There's still a hit, but on my system it's now from 40 to 20 fps, rather than 30 to 10, which makes it quite flyable.

Let's think of it this way: you will probably never have a better Iraklion Airport in FS9, so if you want it, go get it.

so if you want it, go get it.

Many, many thanks for the reassurance Wingz. So glad you didn't waste your money after all.

I am wondering if there's any update on this issue? I really wanted to buy this addon but was put off by the issues that some people were having with the FS9 version. I am curious to see if those of you who purchased have been able to work out the kinks and are now pleased with it? My credit card has been snug in my pocket since Christmas and is getting restless

Cheers

Ian

Interesting you raise this.

I find that, after the initial install, I've never been back to that scenery.

I'll quote myself from the Aerosoft forum:

Gratifying to see the performance issue addressed, on my system the scenery is now flyable at 20fps, albeit still with a noticeable hit approaching it.

If there is ever a "Reboot" release of this scenery, I'd strongly recommend implementing Mutley's Hangar Review comment:

"Once you touch down the first thing you see is the space between the runway and taxiway, where there could have been better textures with more 3D textures visible."

The immediate area around the approach and runway needs to be higher-res.

The fuzzy ground textures badly devalue the scenery, and can be upped without too much penalty, now the other performance issues have been corrected.

This is nicely done at Aerosoft's Larnaca, for example.

Slightly off topic, when I am writing a post I get plain text courier with no formatting ability!

Is this me, or a forum thing??

Not a forum thing WingZ.

Arrrh you had me quite bewildered there for a moment...

You mean when you press that "toggle Editing Mode" button top left, it... changes the way it looks?

Thank you.
