I'll buy Alaska for the scenery, big letdown on the Cub.

Featured Replies

Seeing as we have the Maule I'll go ahead and buy Alaska for the scenery alone. One can only hope this trend of 'Basic' models comes to an end so some serious enjoyment of this product can insue. My next fear is the area covered in this next installment is smaller than we were lead to believe. I hope the whole state is covered most importantly the Fjords area as that would be a blast. This along with TrackIR would give me hope more robust aircraft are in the works that would allow us to fly around this vast area.

Bottom line is I can't pass on this scenery but things have got to change in their minds concerning aircraft development. I'd love to see the warbirds revisited with detailed cockpits because I'd buy everyone let alone the bush planes we need for Alaska...

I will also get it, even though the Maule has changed a bit and I doubt how useful it will be in Alaska... I can hardly finish jobs above Hawaii flying at 5000 to 7000 feet and Alaska has some high mountains.

I think the coverage is okay: "600,000 square miles of new scenery, 565 airports and 137 seaplane bases" sounds pretty good to me. I will certainly buy it.

Looks like there still could be some "small" hope for the Carbon Cub yet. We will see.

I'll get it, just for the extra scenery and airports. I mean, they put a lot of work into that. I just think this would have been an epic release had they included at least 1 deluxe aircraft. Just including one basic kinda hit a sore spot.

I will also still get it. Assuming the price is in-line with or not much more than Hawaii, it's a good value.

The Maule is a little less magical in it's performance now that they've apparently fixed the "problem" of overloading it not really impacting it's climb-rate. But it's still a good bush plane and, with TrackIR so I can finally look over and around the nose, I'll be giving it a real work-out in Alaska. The high mountains are why most VFR GA routes follow valleys and take passes.

But I am eager to see what other plane(s?) appear with Alaska.

They wouldn't have put in all those seaplane bases without a craft capable of water-based jobs. So, I figure there will be a Beaver or something else on floats. Probably not a twin flying-boat, due to no multiengine controls appearing in the setup UI, but there will be something to fly out of those places. I will be a little dissapointed if there is no other new amphibian and they just add a Maule variant with floats. But only a little.

Well, I may pick up Alaska even if they don’t have the autopilot in. I found a workaround for the missing autopilot.

I start the job. Take off and climb till I would enable the autopilot. I then hit the escape key and bring up the options. I then turn off prop effects and resume the game. When I get close to my destination, I go back into options and turn prop effects back on. This should hold me over until they get the autopilot in.

I just turn on mouse flight myself. If you leave the mouse in the center of the screen, it will hold that course steady.

Personally, I will not allow myself to purchase Alaska unless they add a useful plane with a cockpit. There would simply be no point, I am tired of all the planes offered in Flight and flying the same rehash in a different setting will not hold my interest for long.

Much quicker method: switch to mouse mode for AP. Works like a charm. The plan is trimmed perfectly within a second. You can even switch back to (what I would call) normal mode again: the trimsettings etc. won't change until you use the controller.

over 600,000 square miles of new scenery, 565 airports and 137 seaplane bases ... I'd call that a point.

I get that, but 600,000+ square miles 500+ airports 120+ seaplane bases and 4 airplanes...... seems a bit uneven if you ask me.

Can't disagree here...

I agree. I'm bored with the 4 initial aircraft. Giving me more places to fly the same aircraft won't do it for me, no matter how much I love the Maule. I want to buy more. I want to give Flight my money, but they first need to earn it.

Same here, I want to buy airplanes for Flight and will gladly part with my cash. But, I need to have planes of substantial quality that actually fit into the game's job and mission systems. I am not picky about the type of plane, how many engines it has or how big it is, (Heck I would take any aircraft that is in the Jane's Aircraft Recognition Manual) it simply needs to have a cockpit... is that really too much to ask?

....

565 airports and 137 seaplane bases"

....

How many of these airfields will be bare bones strips of narrow worn grass/gravel/snow ? without any buildings.

How many will be custom made? How many towns/cities custom/generic?

Such lack of information could imply "they have not gotten to them yet" meaning the DLC is a far bit off?

Myself I would like to have this Alaska Expansion Pack .... NOW

I suspect we will see Alaska next Wednesday.
