June 21, 201213 yr Commercial Member Yes yes we get your point, who apart from you is saying RAAS was designed to replace crew monitoring? With your line of thinking we may as well get rid of automated altitude call outs, automated V1 call outs, alt capture alerts, DH call outs & hey while were at it who needs FADEC or EEC, the PNF should be monitoring start procedures, no need for a computer to get in the way.. RAAS was created as a tool to assist with preventing runway and taxiway incursions which is a major issue in modern aviation. Regarding guidance on approach, no flightcrew should be hearing too high since as you say the PNF and PF should be on the ball way before the machine is telling them they are screwing up, it is merely a back up system which is very popular with all the flight crew I have spoken with. June 21, 201213 yr It seems to me that this is degenerating into a debate about a real world system that has been tested and accepted into airline operations. People with much better qualifications than us have evaluated it and approved it for service. The fact is that we have been given an outstandingly realistic freeware addon which is designed to realistically emulate a device for multi-crew airliners flying into busy and complex airports. Some of us will choose to use it and some will not. But debating about the merits of the sytem seems rather pointless when it is already in service in the real world :Peace: Ian
