A quick fly by of Pro ATC

Featured Replies

What I have read in the PRO-ATC forum the developer claims that it is a discepancy in the airac that is used...And that it will be solved when the functionality to update the airac using the navigraph airacs...

So I think it will be working better soon, he is very good at releasing updates so Im pretty sure this will be solved soon enough!

Ok' date=' I have bought it and thought that i might contribute to this thread with my ideas after my first couple of flights

To start with, the voice of the ATC and the background chatter is by FAR the best i´ve come across... It sounds really natural! And it gave me a correct SID and a working clearance... The flight worked very good, the only "problem" i noticed is that it did let me level out at FL120 for a long time, and then the final descent where very steep... not impossible but i needed flaps, speed brakes and geer to manage the speed.

So in other words, it worked very well and I think its the best ATC-addon we have right now (at least for my needs)...

It needs some tweaking still... like the descent path maybe a choice for the pilot to request descent when he wants to...

And I think it really needs to be able to talk to the AI-traffic to make it perfect...

But they are very close to be extremely good and a must have addon...

The best ATC addon we have right now? I thought you never tried radar contact nor PFE?

Jos

Yea i think it beats radar contact... (this is just my opinion). And I havent tried PFE so okay I´ll rephrase:

I think its the best atc- addon I have tried so far ;-)

Hello

In what way do you think this beats Radar Contact ?, it seems to lack a lot of features compared to RC, and lacks even more compared to PFE.

Is it just ear candy or a realistic ATC environment ?, it seems that it only offers canned chatter, no support for third party aircraft , no realistic transition levels and it does not take third party Afcads into consideration so it knows nothing about the layouts of any Addon airports you have.

It seems to be best used with default aircraft at default airports, is this correct ?

I agree a 100% with Mark's arguments.

I'm also aware that a program like this needs time to develop. Until now, the devs have corrected a number of bugs. Very little development for those who fly other planes then the 737ngx.

The price ticket doesn't reflect the present value. I appreciate the patience and input of the participants on this thread who serve as great beta testers.

For the moment, PRO-atc sits on my drive, waiting for better days.

As I said, I have not tried PFE so I cannot state any pro´s and con´s in that case.

The things I think that PRO-ATC does better than radar contact is:

* The sound, the voices of the atc and such are more "fluent" than in radar contact

* Pro atc actually tells you what SID and STARS to fly, radar contact just allows you to fly a sid /star that you choose...

* Pro atc is being worked on, updates are being release almost on a daily basis... Nothing has happened with Radar Contact for years... And according to the developer, nothing will happen for at least a year...

Those two things are the things that I think that pro atc is better at...

And once again, this is just my personal opinion... And im not really after 1000% realism, that the transition levels arent spot on all the time, and that the vectors arent 100% real at all times doesnt bother me much...

I have gotten vectored into the mountains many times using radar contact as well...

Hello

If you fly in Europe ProATC's transition levels will be wrong 100% of the time.

If you are flying into an airport with mountainous terrain then using Radar Contacts notam feature will help with this.

Interesting that you see the fact that ProATC is buggy and lacks features hence requires constant patching (i.e Beta software) as an advantage over a program that has been stable for years.

Yes I have noticed that, and according to the developer that will be fixed.

But as I said, this is just my personal opinion... I think its great even though it has its small glitches.

Thats what important for me ;-)

It needs some tweaking still... like the descent path maybe a choice for the pilot to request descent when he wants to...

You have a couple of options for descending. You can go into your flight plan and select an altitude you want to be at a certain waypoint all the way down to the glideslope. Or, you can do like I do and begin the initial descent when advised by ATC and continue at a slow rate down to the glideslope or use the descent function in the PMDG FMC. For my frequently used flightplans, I intend to set the FL for each waypoint (this is provided in update 1034 (beta)).

I really like the sound of the ATC voices too! And, with users providing more voices, it can only get better!

Best regards,

Jim

For the routes I fly I get sent all over the place from one silly way point to the next, flying away from my intended track then after a 100nm I get a waypoint going back to where I should be. This is an ATC program and not a flight planner.

This was fixed in the 1st or 2nd update. Have you updated to the latest version? It's on the download page of the ProATC website. It's now impossible for this to occur. In addition, when you make a flightplan (and you can set it up to use a realtime plan), you can add or delete waypoints. The only thing you will not have control over is the SID or the STAR the Controller will give you. When a flight plan is activated in FSX, one flight plan will be loaded by ProATC for takeoff and flying about halfway through your flight. At the halfway point, another flightplan will be loaded by ATC for the descent, STAR, and landing phases. So it is literally impossible to go back to a missed waypoint like in earlier versions.

Very late descents

This was fixed in the 1034 beta on the download page. You can now go into your flightplan and indicate the FL you want to be at each waypoint.

Hope you can get it to work now and enjoy the program. It really does work if you fine tune your flightplan (like in real life).

Best regards,

Jim

It is working with the PMDG MD11 now with the beta 1034.

Yeah! Good news Ed.

Just a HU. Another update has been released - 1037. Major change provides support for PMDG 737 and other PMDG aircraft:

PMDG Support

Flight plans are generated for the PMDG 737 NGX panel. It should work with other PMDG panels. Activate "Generate PMDG 737 NGX flight plan" in Options -> IN-Flight. The flight plan is created as soon as the flight / approach - clearance has been confirmed by the copilot.

You have to load a flight plan manually by the FMC. Just click "FMC -> RTE - > co Route" then select "PROATCX" and click on "exec". Finally activate the plan. You have to reload the flight plan after the approach clearance has been confirmed. Don't forget to activate the transition waypoint.

The autopilot is still not served by the copilot but this follows soon.

Best regards,

Jim

Just a quick question, sorry if this have been answered before. Does this addon support oceanic procedures like oceanic clearance and position reports?

No.
