August 27, 200223 yr I would wonder if anyone can tell me the meaning of "CAUTION: BROWN OVERLAY" on some Terminal Charts (Jeppesen). Thanks and greets from Munich/GermanyArt (EDNX)
August 27, 200223 yr Might be a warning about serious smog. Smog can seriously degrade visibility (as well as smelling bad so you might want to put the airco on recirculation only).
August 27, 200223 yr Hmmmm...do you really know this or is it an assumption. I have attached a small sample-chart (LSZR ILS DME Rwy 10).So, any other ideas?
August 27, 200223 yr Well..... the very down to earth explanation that I can give you is that in my version of Jeppesen (V2) the chart actually shows a.... brown overlay. This is not displayed in your screen capture, so hence the warning I guess. (No "brown overlay" message on my chart, which has the brown color)Normal colors are just black and blue (water).Vince
August 27, 200223 yr Well what it really means Art is it's "Generalized Terrain Contours".It's depicted when terrain within the approach chart planview exceeds 4000ft above the airport elevation, or when terrain within 6 nautical miles of the airport reference point (ARP) rises to at least 2000ft above the airport elevation. The shade or tint of the brown indicates changes in elevation.Regards,Ed Weber a.k.a tallpilot
