Wind direction - AI landing on the opposite side of the runway

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm using FSX, REX2.0 and RC. I've noticed that AI is cleared to land on the opposite side of the runway I am cleared to land by RC. In FS9 I've used (sometimes) the option in Active Sky to force AI to recognize the current wind direction and so on. I am using the latest FSUIPC. Any ideas?

i forget what that option is. make sure your fsuipc is up to date, and so is active sky.

What version of Active Sky? There have been some issues where asa I think in DWC mode applies weather globally which means whatever wind the aircraft is sensing at 40 nm out, let's say, is applied to the airport, not the local surface winds which take affect only as the aircraft gets really near the airport. This results in a rapid surface wind change which can affect the response of AI and RC since RC may have appointed the incorrect runway due to non-surface wind conditions.Another beta tester has more experience with it. Also make sure you have the latest service pack for ASA if that is your version. In FSUIPC4 see if the wind smoothing option is available.

I meant I've used Active Sky in FS9, now I'm using REX with FSX, I don't think REX have this option in their weather engine, should I ask about this on their forum? I have the latest FSUIPC as well.

Not sure if this applies to FSX, but with FS9 i set everything up, then when im just about to get weather info, i advance the time by 1 minute and it refreshes the sim, making the AI use the correct runway.Andy

I'm not sure this is in the registered RC registered version of FSUIPC3 but there is a feature in it where you can assign a hot key to toggling the AI between two different percentages. I assign one value to 0 so AI is on at 100% and off at 0%. I use ctrl-t. See the FSUIPC user guide. Using this quickly updates the FS weather engine and ATIS after weather writes are completed as well after AS is through writing the changes to it. (I have the fully registered FSUIPC3 for FS9.)
