Carenado Seneca II seems ready to purchase on Carenado website

Featured Replies

I bought this also, I fly the "Flying Club" Seneca from Just Flight, and my primary issuewith that is its exterior looks a bit 'simplistic', on the other hand the cockpit has alwaysbeen a favorite, i just love that retro 70's look :) Furthermore, the thing flies like a dream, its always been the plane of choice to go do some touch and goes with whenI'm in the mood. So, on to the Carenado, the exterior model is an A+, its gorgeous, further, the soundis an A++, I think its the most realistic small prop sound I've heard.OK, thats the good news, handling is a different story, on taxi its less than stable, onthe roll down the runway it was more work to keep straight than I think it should be.Once it got in the air, well, good grief is this thing SENSITIVE, I am used to FSX inmaximum realism settings, and yes, I can handle it, but the slightest twitch is metwith WAY too much reaction.I could go trying to tweak the config, but I really would rather not, PLEASE FIX THISCarenado, because this is just a wonderful plane in all other regards and I want tobe flying it!Cheers,
I find this interesting cause I have no trouble on the ground, and don't find it twitchy in the air at all-but then again I also fly xplane :). The pitch axis seems a little fast reacting but not twitchy. Would adjusting sensitivites in the joystick area fix this?I have always felt that a good deal of a flight model is in the controls-and since there are so many varieties it makes sense that what works on one might not on another.

Thanks JFV and Geof for the info. The Just Flight Seneca is one of my favourite planes. Sure it's starting to look a bit dated and tired but then aren't we all? Not being a real world pilot I don't know how accurate the flight dynamics of the JF Seneca are but I know I like them.I've never bought a Carenado aircraft but because I like the Seneca I'm looking at it now. Would be interested to hear more comments on the JF Seneca versus the Carenado Seneca.I wonder if Carenado have a 30 day money back policy like Flight1? I'd hate to buy a plane I already have and find out it flies worse than the one I've got.

Carenado will be releasing a patch shortly to deal with the flight dynamics issues.

Perhaps its a choice of language here, I also am less than sure on the ground handling, but I seem to recall it was one of those planes that required a lot of toe braking as I taxied, and pedal work to keep straight on takeoff. I wasnot saying I could not handle it, just that as compared to the planes I consider great, for instance the Cheyenne orF1 ATR, it was found wanting. The behavior in the air I have no doubt about, it is a problem.I use Saitek yoke, pedals, and quad, they are adjusted fine for the scads of other things I fly, that is not the issuehere, in fact, I also own and fly the Carenado Mooney, and it handles great both on the ground and in the air... socall it 'twitchy' call it 'sensitive', or you can call it Ray... :)

Anybody found the beacon switch yet? And am I the only one who's seeing the carb heat needles staying on the bottom peg? The tag reads correctly, but the needle doesn't move.Still...I am enjoying this airplane a lot more than I expected to, now that I've gotten rid of the default GPS and replaced with with a GNS530.

I installed the patch--Carenado didn't do too much for the pitch sensitivity. They toned down the elevator effectiveness by 20 percent and slightly increased pitch stability, but I preferred my earlier edit and changed my pitch stability back to 5.0 and changed the elevator effectiveness back to its original value. Again I am hardly expert in the way a Seneca should handle, but of the several real world aircraft I've flown, I don't recall any every being that twitchy in pitch. They fixed several other issues in the patch however including one I brought to their attention over the weekend.-John

Got the patch, too. They also fixed the beacon effect so that it comes on when you switch on the strobes, and there was mention in the readme about the CHT gauges being fixed, but that wasn't the case when I flew it. This is a fun plane, and I am thoroughly enjoying myself with it.

Is that how it works in the real aircraft? If it is then I find it strange that this AC doesn't follow the normal procedure of switching strobes on/off when entering/leaving the active runway. The Checklists make no mention of light deployment other than the Outside Cabin check.

Yes its like that at least in our seneca beacon light is connected to the strobe lights! Dean some of aircraft do not even have beacon lights! as the cirrus you see them taxiing with strobe lights turned on

Thanks Georgio. I have to say it's the first aircraft I've ever flown in any version of FS, that's had the beacon & strobes tied together. Is it still a requirement to switch them on prior to engine start or is this at pilots discretion?I'm more akin to flying the big iron where leaving strobes on whilst off the active will seriously upset a lot of people. But then again, I'd guess the intensity of a 767's strobes are 10X that of a Seneca :)

Nope, it's definitely a pain on the little ones, too.

The beacon needs to be on anytime the engines are running, so in the Seneca's case you just have to deal with the strobes being on too.

yes, you taxi whit the strobe lights on also, remember that some old aircaft came without strobe lights thats something that people added to them later so most of them are connected with the beacon light!

I just installed the patch and, like stated earlier it didnt do much for the pitch stability. When taking off it struggles to get airborne then all of a sudden it bounces in the air like a rocket. Reminds me of the Carenado piper arrow. I love this plane but its handling characteristics are very annoying.
