December 25, 200718 yr Commercial Member Ok you pilots out there (or those who play one on TV). Got my new Saitek Yoke/Throttle Quad with an additional Throttle Quad for handling my 4-engine heavies into Kai Tak ;-) Now through FSUIPC I have been able to set my Throttles, Reversers, and my Flaps. It's the spoilers I do not inderstand how to set up for a jumbo.Looking at all the selections FS9 offers for Spoilers I am not sure which ones to use for an axis and where about they should belocated on the axis. If anybody has alreaady done this I could sure appreciate some guidance.Happy Holidaze! December 26, 200718 yr Hi,I never use FS9 or FSX for assigning axises. I use FSUIPC and then you may calibrate the assigned axis in FSUIPC.User guide is available on the FSUIPC forum. No problem.Ulf B
December 26, 200718 yr That works. However, you may also assign an axis in FS and calibrate that axis in FSUPIC.Jim Harnes
December 26, 200718 yr Author Commercial Member I was planning on assigning them with FSUIP like I did the rest. I saw no tutorial on how to set the spoilers for a Saitek, that is why I posted here. So if someone has actually done that let me know.thx Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) December 26, 200718 yr Clutch - I just received the Saitek Yoke and dual throttle packs and set the "C1-C2" switch on the Yoke (on right handle, just below the red view button) as the Spoilers deploy/armed switched. I did the assignment via the "Buttons & Switches" tab in FSUIPC as part of the mapping and calibration setting of the Saitek Yoke, pedals, and dual throttle quadrants. Works well with my LevelD 767. BTW, the 9 Dragons Project looks sweet. I am flying FSX mostly, but your team project looks like a sweet FS9 scenery - nicely done promo vids too! Scott Robinson
December 26, 200718 yr Author Commercial Member Thanks about the 9D videos. Yes, we are getting little sleep these days prepping for release.Yes, I could do it as a switch like you but in my CH Throttle Quad I had the first axis lever on the left as my Spoiler. Worked great as I could arm it and then it would deploy automatically on touchdown. By setting it your way does it deploy automatically or must you press the button? December 26, 200718 yr I have never had good luck in using an axis for spoilers. It works with some aircraft but not others, sometimes I couldn't get the "armed" position to take, etc. I finally gave up.scott s..
December 26, 200718 yr Author Commercial Member Mmmmm... May try the switch route also. That way it would free up my first axis to serve as my landing gear. December 27, 200718 yr Clutch - probably not realistic, but I use a rocker switch so I deploy the spoilers and then reset (arm) to the closed position by pushing the opposite direction on the switch. I haven't tryed yet with the PMDG (just got the hardware on Christmas), but it works well with the LevelD and the FSX default 747. Scott Robinson
December 27, 200718 yr OK, I'll give you my CH overview as I'm not done setting up my new Saitek Yoke and extra Quad yet (yup, me too for Christmas). I'm confident that it'll work just the same as the CH varient.I use only FSUIPC for assignments and calibration and turn off "Joystick Enable" within the FS main menu so derive from this what you will. Obviously you'll need the registered version of FSUIPC for assignments and calibration.Assuming you've got six throttle axis to play with, most people would make the first (left-most) lever the spoiler lever (axis). On my USB bus, this shows up as Joystick 2, axis Z.Go into FSUIPC and find the "Axis Assignments" page. Repeatedly click rescan until the scan boxes are empty. Then move the left-most (2Z in my case) spoiler axis to activate the assignment boxes. You'll also see the "IN & OUT" values change as you move the lever (-16383 to 16384) usually. Tick the Radio button, "Send to FS as Normal Axis" and then just below that, put a check box next to the first assigment box. In the assignment box, scroll down and select "Axis Spoiler Set". Done with the assignment. Now select the "Joystick Calibration tab at the top of FSUIPC. Press the right-arrow button until you get to page "6 of 11". In the bottom left "Spoiler" calibration area, do the following. Click the "Set" Button just above the "IN & OUT" value boxes. Move the lever all the way down to the detent. Now click the left set button (of the three next to each other) to set the "Min" value, usually -16384. Now move the lever up (out of the detent) a bit to set the top of the spoiler "ARM" area. Click the middle "Set" button one time. For me the top ARM activates at -14544. Now move the lever a bit more further up to set the bottom of the ARM area. Click the center "Set" button again. Mine is -10368 for the bottom center box. It should be noted that these "Center" calibration points do not have to be any exact value, just going more positive. Finally, move the spoiler lever all the way up, and press the right-most "Set button" for the upper calibration point. My upper value is 16383. Finally, put a check mark in the "REV" box to operate the lever in the proper direction. Now press the OK button to save and close FSUIPC.First it should be noted that most aircraft do not operate the Spoiler axis properly while on the ground. On the ground, at the gate for example, you can usually pull the lever towards you and watch it move, but it will not return (pushing the lever away from you). Just bump the throttle axis to return the Spoiler axis to the stowed position (up/away from you). This is most noteably true on the PMDG aircraft. Now when on approach, pull the lever just a bit to enter the "ARM" area previously calibrated and ensure your autobrakes are set somewhere between 1 & max. Then they'll fully deploy automatically on touchdown. You'll also have a good calibration to manually deploy spoilers during descent with some quality control over thier position with respect to the lever position. My PMDG Assignment in FSUPC.ini looks like this:6=2Z,256,F,66382,0,0,0 ;AXIS_SPOILER_SETand my PMDG calibration in FSUIPC.ini looks like this:Spoilers=-16384,-14544,-10368,16383/16Good luck. Hope this helps... Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
January 5, 200818 yr Hello JordanI want to thank you for your clear explanationIt works great also on my Cougar on which I assigned the spoilers to the Range knob on the throttle.Peter schould add that as example in his FSUIPC4 help file ! it would be helpful also for the other axis to program (flaps or trimm for example)I hope that will help some others too .best regards from StrasbourgPhilippe
