March 17, 200323 yr Thanks Bill and Russ, Bill I finally installed quicktime and watched the video's on the multimedia CD, they are excellent. It seemed that in the video's the radio altimeter was not working? I like the way Russ explained his descent techique, of keeping the map at least as high as the rpm to avoid shock cooling the engines, and using the flaps as a sort of speedbrake to limit speed and keep the engine throttled up. Some great stuff in there, Amazing how alike the sim is to the real thing after watching these video's.
March 18, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Wallace,Glad you like the videos. I can tell you it sure was fun shooting them! :-jumpyWell, the radio altimeter must be turned on to operate. But you're right - BT's RA is inop. Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM - Rambow, Visser, Banting, and Younghttp://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/maamsim_logo.gif Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM www.maam.org
March 18, 200323 yr Bill,I enjoy these explanations by Russ.Please continue.Thanks,Don Illigitimi non-carbrundum
March 18, 200323 yr One other thing Bill, on a couple of the video's The bomb bay doors where open prior to engine start .When russ started #2 engine the doors quickly closed as if the door switch was in the closed position already.Do the doors sag open on the ground without HYD pressure or are they usually left open? can they be locked closed If that is the case.
March 18, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Wallace.Visitors are not allowed up into BT's cabin at airshows, but the bomb bay doors are always left open so they can duck inside and look at the six real 250 lb bombs hanging there. The red bomb bay door handle that you can see in the upper turret compartment at the base of the turret pedestal is pushed in when the crew comes aboard for departure. But, since the hydraulic pressure bleeds off after some time on the ground, the doors won't close unless there is residual hydraulic pressure remaining in the system. But when the engine starts, the hydraulic pumps go to work and the doors close.Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM - Rambow, Visser, Banting, and Younghttp://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/maamsim_logo.gif Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM www.maam.org
March 19, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member When I came to work this morning, Russ had another fax waiting for me with the whole scoop on the bomb bay doors. Here it is:*************************************************************The B-25 bomb doors may be operated via two separate controls. The system is operated by hydraulics, however, the Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM www.maam.org
March 20, 200323 yr Hello,Rus refers to seeing fuel run out of the blower drain when pre-priming the engine. Where is the blower drain located? Also, is that what the copilot is refering to when he says, "fuel down," during the start procedure?I gotta tell you that I really dig this airplane. I don't have much time to sim these days but sometimes after I am done with my work I will just load the airplane and fire it up just to hear sounds.Happy Flying,Larry Brown
March 20, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Larry,It exits at the bottom of the cowling, and yes, that's what Tim is talking about when he says, "Fuel down."Glad you like her. :-)Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM - Rambow, Visser, Banting, and Younghttp://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/maamsim_logo.gif Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM www.maam.org
