March 7, 200323 yr For those of you who also own the MAAM R4D, here's a simple way to add the Sperry MkIII autopilot to Briefing Time. Since there's no room on the main panel, it needs to be added to a popup window. Since BT already has nine panels defined, it must be added to an existing popup panel in order to be displayable using the "shift+#" function from the VC. I decided to use the GPS panel since it was easiest and because BT doesn't really have a GPS either. After all, might as well keep all our anomolies together. ;) All you have to do is edit panel.cfg and change the section labeled "Window08" as follows:Background_color=16,16,16 size_mm=925,388position=8visible=0ident=10008sizeable=1gauge00=gps!gps, 0,0,258,388gauge01=RCS-SPERRY-MARKIII-2K2-v3s, 259,0,665,378Note that there are only two changes. The "size_mm=" line is changed and the "gauge01=" line is added.Since I use the FSAvionics Flightmax and GNS530 on my system, I don't need the MS GPS unit at all. So I decided to replace the GPS pop-up entirely with the Sperry by changing "Window08" to this: Background_color=16,16,16 size_mm=665,388position=8visible=0ident=10008sizeable=1gauge00=RCS-SPERRY-MARKIII-2K2-v3s, 0,0,665,378Again just two changes. The "Size_mm=" and "gauge00=" lines are changed.Although its not necessary, if you replace the GPS entirely you might also want to change the line in the "Window Titles" section from "Window08=GPS" to "Window08=Sperry Autopilot".Either way, you can bring up the AP by using the GPS icon on the co-pilots panel or by pressing SHIFT+9.A quick test flight showed no problems functioning properly in BT. Even the pop-up help function works!Good flying!
March 12, 200323 yr Is it possible to do the same with a default A/P from one of the FS2k2airplanes with the two changes you made to the GPS in window #8 ??Aloha,Mahalo !
March 12, 200323 yr Haven't tried, but it should work. The size_mm values would change depending on which one you wanted to use, as would the size values on the gaugexx= line.An added note:The two main panel windows in panel.cfg have gauges which are not numbered consecutively. If you use FS Panel Studio to edit the panel it will DELETE all the gauges from the pilot and copilot panels that were not in numerical order. You can prevent this by renumbering them in notepad before using Panel Studio.
March 12, 200323 yr Thanks Buddy! You solved my problem. I had the same problem with FSPanel Studio deleting the gauges. I had not noticed the numbering problem. Now I can use it again. Best regards, Bob.
March 12, 200323 yr Hoi,thank you for the tip, it works great. A question though - I can't seem to level the aircraft completely. It keeps either climbing or descending. No matter if the valve is at it's lowest setting or the recommended '3', it just won't level. Any ideas on how to solve that?I noticed the same with the trim BTW - it's impossible to get a (near-)perfect trim. I use the Antenna rotation of my HOTAS Cougar for this function - an analogue 'slider' ("Z-rotation IIRC) - which should be more sensitive than just a keypress. Gert
