FSX Scenery Creation- "cliff notes" edition

Featured Replies

Having just sorted through the various tutorials, SDK's, utilities and forum posts on the subject, here is a quick tour of the process for making your FSX scenery a "reality"1.Make sure you have FSX Deluxe edition, that's the only version with the SDK (software development kit)2.Download Gmax and install, install FSX SDK, add service packs to SDK up to the version of FSX you are using. copy FSX gamepack from SDK into correct folder in Gmax directory- follow instructions that come with SDK.3.Create the object and add day/night textures to it in Gmax-follow gmax_3d_model.zip tutorial from http://www.scenery.org/tutorials.htm4.Export the object model to FSX .mdl format and attach a GUID (globally unique identification number) to it using FS Tools menu in Gmax-follow tutorial at http://www.windowlight.co.nz/simplebuildingnew5.html. Make sure you make a note of the object's GUID.5.Export the object's day/ night textures to FSX .dds format-follow tutorial at http://www.windowlight.co.nz/simplebuildingnew6.html6.Compile the object model into an object library .bgl file- download Library Creator XML 2.0 (search fsdeveloper.com) and follow manual at http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/inde...reator_XML_2.07.Create a new folder for your scenery in FSX/Addon Scenery. Inside of this folder, create two new folders, "texture" and "scenery". Put the .dds texture files you created earlier in "texture". Put the .bgl object library file in "scenery". Start FSX and make sure your scenery is activated in Settings->Scenery Library. If not, activate by clicking "Add Scenery" and navigating to the folder you created earlier (the one containing scenery and texture folders)8.Run FSX and go to to the location and place your object. Use Tools->Object Placement Tool inside FSX to do this- follow object_placement_tool.zip tutorial at http://www.scenery.org/tutorials.htm. You will need to find the GUID of your object from the list in Object Placement Tool. When you close the Tool, a .xml file will be generated. Drag and drop this onto the bglcomp.exe icon in Microsoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator X SDKSDKEnvironment KitBGL Compiler SDK. That will generate a .bgl scenery, which you should move to the scenery folder with the .bgl object library file you created earlier. 9.Restart FSX, and you will see your scenery!
